SeaDataCloud Temperature and Salinity Historical Data Collections for the North Sea (Version 1) ArchiMer

The SeaDataCloud Temperature and Salinity Historical Data Collection for the North Sea includes open access in situ data on temperature and salinity for the period 1893 – 2017. The data were retrieved from the SeaDataNet infrastructure at the end of October 2017. The dataset format is ODV binary collections [3]. The quality control of the data has been performed with the help of ODV software. Data Quality Flags have been revised following common recommended procedures defined under SeaDataNet 2 project [2] in conjunction with visual expert check. Trajectories (“underway” data) and “discrete” data (CTD, XBT, discrete water samplers) have been handled separately.

SeaDataCloud Temperature and Salinity Climatology for the North Atlantic Ocean (Version 1) ArchiMer

SeaDataCloud Temperature and Salinity Climatologies have been processed from the North Atlantic Ocean historical Data Collection including temperature and salinity in situ data of water column in the North Atlantic Ocean (from 10°N to 62°N for the east part and including the Labrador Sea for the west part) for period 1900-2015. Several versions are proposed in seasonal and monthly format for the period 1955-2015 and six decadal periods (1955-1964/1965-1974/1975-1984/1985-1994/1995-2004/2005-2015). A subset of the CORA dataset (Szekely et al., 2016) has been integrated to the SeaDataCloud aggregated dataset as external data-source to improve the spatial and temporal coverage.

SeaDataCloud Mediterranean Ocean Heat Content estimate ArchiMer

The SDC_MED_DP2 product contains 55 sliding decadal temperature fields (1955-1964, 1956-1965, 1957-1966, …, 2009-2018) at 1/8° horizontal resolution obtained in the 0-2000m layer and two derived OHC annual anomaly estimates for the 0-700m and the 0-2000m layers. Sliding decades of annual Temperature fields were obtained from an integrated Mediterranean Sea dataset covering the time period 1955-2018, which combines data extracted from SeaDataNet infrastructure at the end of July 2019 (SDC_MED_DATA_TS_V2, https://doi.org/10.12770/3f8eaace-9f9b-4b1b-a7a4-9c55270e205a) and the Coriolis Ocean Dataset for Reanalysis (CORA 5.2, accessed in July 2020, https://archimer.ifremer.fr/doc/00595/70726/). SeaDataNet II data products: the North Atlantic Ocean Region ArchiMer

During the SeaDataNet II (SDN) EU-project, a quality control (QC) strategy has been implemented and continuously reviewed aiming at improving the quality of the global dataset and creating the best products. This strategy has been developed in collaboration with MyOcean In-Situ Thematic Assemble Centre (INS-TAC) at regional levels to serve operational and scientific oceanography communities. Temperature and salinity historical data collections were created by sea basins, as aggregated datasets and climatology products, and covering the time period 1900-2013. The Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS) Ocean State Report (OSR) provides an annual report of the state of the global ocean and European regional seas for policy and decision-makers with the additional aim of increasing general public awareness about the status of, and changes in, the marine environment. The CMEMS OSR draws on expert analysis and provides a 3-D view (through reanalysis systems), a view from above (through remote-sensing data) and a direct view of the interior (through in situ measurements) of the global ocean and the European regional seas. SeaDataCloud Temperature and Salinity Climatologies for the Global Ocean (Version 2) ArchiMer

The SDC_GLO_CLIM_TS_V2 product is an improved version of SDC_GLO_CLIM_TS_V1 and contains two different monthly climatologies for temperature and salinity from the World Ocean Database 2018 (WOD-18). Along with the basic quality control flags from the WOD-18, an additional quality control named Nonlinear Quality Control (NQC) is applied. The first climatology, V2_1, considers temperature and salinity profiles from Conductivity Depth Temperature (CTD), Ocean station data (OSD) and Moored buoy data (MRB) along with Profiling Floats (PFL) from 1900 to 2017. The second climatology, V2_2, utilizes only PFL data from 2003 to 2017. V2_1 considers 44 layers from surface to 6000 m while V2_2 only 34 from 0 to 2000 m.
