Study of Position, Shape, Size and Incidence of Mental Foramenand Accessory Mental Foramen in Indian Adult Human Skulls International Journal of Morphology
Singh,Rajani; Srivastav,A. K.
Paralysis of the mental nerve is one of the principal complications of surgery of the mandibular canal and mental foramen region. Therefore, identification of mental foramen is important for dental surgeons in nerve block and surgical procedures like apico curettage of mandibular premolars, amalgam filling, peridental surgery etc. to avoid injury to neurovascular bundle. Accessory mental foramina tend to exist in the apical area of the first molar and posterior or inferior area of the mental foramen. The accessory branches of the mandibular canal showed common characteristics in the course of gently sloping posterosuperior direction in the buccal surface area. Verification of the existence of accessory mental foramina would prevent accessory nerve injury...

Classification and Fascicular Analysis of Variant Branching Pattern of Femoral Nerve for Microsurgical Intervention: A Series of Thirteen Cadavers International Journal of Morphology
Singh,Rajani; Tubbs,Shane; Singla,Mukesh.
Femoral neuropathy associated with lower limb is treated by surgical intervention through activation/regeneration/grafting of nerve fibers by a nerve cuff electrode implant or neuro-prosthesis. These procedures require detailed and precise knowledge of neuro-anatomical variants of the femoral nerve and its fascicular anatomy so that the nerve injury can be investigated and treated more efficiently. The aim of the study is to uncover the variations both in the femoral nerve and its branches, to classify them and to bring out corresponding fascicular anatomy using a hypothesis based on the principle of consistency, continuity and traceability of fascicles. The study was carried out in the Department of Anatomy AIIMS Rishikesh using 13 matched lower limbs (26...

Classification and Analysis of Fifth Pair of Sacral Foramina in Indian Dry Sacra International Journal of Morphology
Singh,Rajani.
A sacrum with five pairs of foramina is an anatomical variant resulting from sacralisation of lumbar vertebra at cranial end or sacralisation of coccyx vertebra at caudal end. An unusual gross variation nurtures interest of anatomists and causes concern for clinicians when it mimics pathology. A sacrum with fifth anomalous pair of sacral foramina has been observed which prompted the author to examine the available sacra in the osteology lab of Department of Anatomy KG Medical University Lucknow, UP, India. Of the total sixty six observed sacra, those with five pairs of sacral foramina due to sacralisation of lumbar vertebra were found in eleven cases (16.6%) while those due to sacralisation of coccygeal vertebra were observed in nine cases (13.6%). These...

Estimation of Stature and Age from Head Dimensions in Indian Population International Journal of Morphology
Singh,Rajani.
Body segments exhibit consistent ratios with stature, age, gender and race. Thus prediction of stature from cranial remains is vital in establishing the identity of an unknown individual in natural calamities and archaeological exploration where entire body skeleton is not available. Little is known about the cranial dimensions in Indian population. Hence the study was carried out to predict stature, age and sex for solving medico-legal problems, anthropological complexities and archaeological investigations. Undergraduate students in the age group of 17-26 years of CSM Medical University, UP, India were selected as subjects because of easy access. Cranial dimensions of the subjects were measured by spreading calliper and Todd' head spanner. Heights of...

Incidence of Sutural Bones at Asterion in Adults Indians Skulls International Journal of Morphology
Singh,Rajani.
Asterion is the point of sutural confluence observed in normal lateralis of the skull where parietal, temporal and occipital bone meet. Present study was carried out in the Department of Anatomy, CSM Medical University, Lucknow using fifty five dry human skulls to analyse the incidence of sutural bones at the asterion and its variation. At the asterion, sutural morphology was classified into two types: Type I- Where a sutural bone was present and Type II- Where a sutural bone was absent. Among 27 female skulls, percentage of Type I Asterion was found to be 14.81 and Type II contributed to 85.19%. 17.86 % asterion were classified as Type I and 82.14% as Type II in male skulls. The examination of 55 skulls (male and female together) brought out 16.36% Type I...
