Soroprevalência da anemia infecciosa eqüina, da arterite viral dos eqüinos e do aborto viral eqüino no município de Uruará, PA, Brasil Braz. J. Vet. Res. Anim. Sci.
Heinemann,Marcos Bryan; Cortez,Adriana; Souza,Maria do Carmo Custódio de; Gotti,Tatiana; Ferreira,Fernando; Homem,Valéria Stachini Ferreira; Ferreira Neto,José Soares; Soares,Rodrigo Martins; Sakamoto,Sidnei Mioshi; Cunha,Elenice Maria Sequetin; Richtzenhain,Leonardo José.

Pathogenesis of rabies virus by ERA and PV strains administered orally in hamsters (M. auratus) Braz. J. Vet. Res. Anim. Sci.
Alves,Luciane Martins; Soares,Rodrigo Martins; Cortez,Adriana; Richtzenhain,Leonardo José; Ito,Fumio Nonma.
Hamsters orally inoculated with ERA and PV strains of rabies virus were sacrificed at 24, 48, 72 hours, 21 and 30 days after inoculation. Brain fragments were examined by Fluorescent Antibody test (FAT) and heminested PCR (hn-PCR). Fragments from stomach, blood, heart, and lung were examined only by hn-PCR. Sera of other hamsters, similarly inoculated, obtained at 30th day after inoculation were submitted to mouse neutralization test. The hamsters were challenged intracerebrally with CVS strain with 10(2.7)mouse LD50/0.03mL, 45 days after inoculation. Brains examined by FAT were negative. The hn-PCR detected the presence of rabies virus RNA in the lung of one animal inoculated with ERA, and in the brain, stomach, blood, and lung of PV-infected animals. The...

Evaluation of experimental Toxoplasma gondii (Nicolle and Manceaux, 1909) infection in pigs by bioassay in mice and polymerase chain reaction Braz. J. Vet. Res. Anim. Sci.
Yai,Lucia Eiko Oishi; Vianna,Manoella Compostrini Barreto; Soares,Rodrigo Martins; Cortez,Adriana; Freire,Roberta Lemos; Richtznhain,Leonardo José; Gennari,Solange Maria.
The aim of the present experiment was to standardize a nested polymerase chain reaction (nPCR) for the detection of Toxoplasma gondii in tissues of experimentally infected pigs and to compare the performance of nPCR with the standard isolation technique, the bioassay in mice. Comparison between the two methods was done testing eight 4 month-old pigs orally inoculated with 5 x 10(4) oocysts of Toxoplasma gondii (AS-28 strain) and three non-infected pigs at the same age, kept as control. All animals were euthanatized 47 days after infection and samples of brain, heart, tongue and retina were collected from each animal for analysis by nPCR and bioassay in mice. By using the bioassay, Toxoplasma gondii was detected in 4 infected pigs, being two in the retina,...

Characterization of Aujeszky's disease virus isolates from South and Southeast Brazil by RFLP analysis BJM
Piatti,Rosa Maria; Ikuno,Alice Akimi; Cunha,Elenice Sequetin; D'Ambros,Régia; Gregori,Fábio; Soares,Rodrigo Martins; Cortez,Adriana; Richtzenhain,Leonardo José.
The genomic DNA of thirty strains of Aujeszky's disease virus (ADV) isolated in the South and Southeast regions of Brazil from 1982 to 1996 were characterized by restriction endonuclease analysis with BamHI. Twenty seven strains were isolated from pigs, 1 from cattle, 1 from cat and 1 from dog. Using a systematization previously described, the 30 ADV strains could be classified as genomic types I (n = 2) and II (n = 28). Genomic type III was not observed. In this first study of genomic type characterization of brazilian ADV strains, we could demonstrate the occurence in Brazil of the genomic types I and II, with a large predominance of genomic type II.
