ABSTRACT Inadequate and intensive management of soils can promote changes in their chemical attributes and impair the quality of surface and groundwater, especially in hillside areas. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify possible changes in soil and water chemical composition of hillside areas cultivated with horticulture. Objetivou-se avaliar a extração de sais pela Atriplex cultivada em solo salino sódico sob condições de estresse hídrico e comparar propriedades do solo antes e após seu cultivo. O experimento foi desenvolvido em casa de vegetação durante 134 dias, com cultivo em vasos com 20 kg de solo salino sódico em quatro níveis de umidade (35, 55, 75 e 95% da capacidade de campo), com um tratamento controle (sem cultivo), montado em blocos casualizados, com oito repetições. Desenvolveu-se um experimento de campo com o intuito de verificar o efeito da irrigação por microaspersão, utilizando-se água de condutividade elétrica média de 1,42 dS m-1, sob as propriedades químicas de um Neossolo Flúvico cultivado com cenoura cv. Brasília. A área foi dividida em dois setores (S1 e S2), com 900 m² cada um (30 x 30 m) e texturas contrastantes; no S2 adicionou-se cobertura morta aos 23 dias após a semeadura (DAS) e se adotou uma fração de lixiviação de 0,20 para os dois setores. A composição iônica da solução do solo é de grande relevância para o monitoramento da disponibilidade de nutrientes e manejo da adubação tal como, também, processos de contaminação ambiental. Assim, métodos mais viáveis que estimem a composição iônica desta solução, são bem aceitos na literatura. ABSTRACT Atriplex nummularia is a halophyte of great importance in the recovery of saline soils and is considered as a model plant to study biosaline scenarios. Os atributos físicos do solo são indicativos imprescindíveis quando se pretende avaliar sistemas de manejo.
