Organic farmers are interested in the growing of spring spelt wheat forms (Triticum spelta L.). Therefore, the important agronomical characteristics and baking quality of six spring spelt wheat landraces were studied and evaluated. The studied and evaluated cultivars were inclined to lodging and wheat diseases. Their yield rate is determined by the length of the spike and the weight of one thousand grains. The grain yield and the crude protein yield per hectare achieved the same level in organic farming. The spring spelt wheat forms stand out in high protein content and wet gluten content; the gluten was, nevertheless, weaker and less swollen. |

Emmer wheat cultivated by organic farmers is used as a component of some bio (organic) food products. Its positive influence on consumer health is caused by grain composition. In the set of 8 emmer wheat accessions, the main grain components, bread making characteristics and contents of health supporting chemical substances such as total dietary fibre content and its components, content of total polyphenols plus catechin and ferulic acid contents, vitamins of the B group and E plus total content of carotenoids were evaluated by standard methods. |

Wheat genetic resources may be grown in organic farming systems or in less favourable areas for bread wheat species. Characteristics of hulled wheat species (23 varieties of einkorn, emmer wheat, spelt wheat) were studied and evaluated within a two-year trial period (which was executed on certified organic fields) and they were compared to characteristics of landraces and modern bread wheat varieties. Organic farmers look to the possibilities of growing neglected crops, such as the spring forms of hulled wheat – einkorn, emmer and spelt – for support in developing the organic farming system. In 2008, 169 landraces from the gene bank at the Crop Research Institute in Prague were tested on certifi ed organic plots. The experiment was aimed at fi nding suitable varieties for the organic farming system. Organic farmers are obliged, in compliance with the valid legislation, to use seed originating from the organic production when establishing the crop stands. In a survey we found certified organic cereal seed is used on 6 %, conventional untreated seed on 37 %, and farm seed on 57 % (of the organically farmed area in the Czech Republic). The main reasons for that are as follows: the insufficient surface of land intended for the reproduction of organic seed, the low proportion of accepted seed coming from the accepted reproduction surface. V laboratorních pokusech s pěti druhy jarních obilnin byla testována semenářská a biologická hodnota osiva (energie klíčení, klíčivost, energie vzcházení, vzcházivost, hmotnost tisíce semen). Porovnávalo se osivo ekologické certifikované, konvenční, farmářské pocházející z lepších pěstitelských podmínek a farmářské z horších pěstitelských podmínek. Osivo pocházelo ze sklizně roku 2010. V pokusech byly zjištěny rozdíly mezi jednotlivými kategoriemi osiva. V laboratorních pokusech se potvrdilo, že větší vypovídací schopnost o kvalitě osiva má laboratorní vzcházivost než standardní laboratorní klíčivost. Při porovnávání kategorií osiva se ukázalo, že se farmářské osivo získané z lepších pěstitelských podmínek může vyrovnat certifikovanému. |

For the organic farmers there is important question which varieties of wheat are right for organic farming in Less Favoured Areas. Modern varieties of wheat are bred in the conditions of conventional (high imput) farming. As organic farmers are searching for new market and sale opportunities, the organic farming system may grow and process a wider range of species than the conventional farming system. Concerning wheat especially the hulled wheat species einkorn, emmer wheat and spelt wheat are in recent years of growing interest for organic farmers. Field trials were carried out at three Czech locations from 2009 to 2010 to study the performance of 4 einkorn, 8 emmer wheat and 7 spelt wheat accessions. Emmer wheat (Triticum diccocum Schrank) belonged to the most frequent species of cereals in the past. Nowadays, it is grown in arid and montane areas in particular. Interest in this cereal species has increased, as it is tolerant to biotic and abiotic stressing factors. Therefore, yield parameters were evaluated in three-year (2007, 2008 and 2010) trials that were carried out in two different localities in the Czech Republic. U osiva různého původu (certifikované ekologické, farmářské z lepších a horších půdně-klimatických podmínek, konvenční nemořené) vybraných odrůd jarního ječmene a jarní pšenice jsme hodnotili zdravotní stav a vybrané biologické vlastnosti; následně byly hodnoceny výnosy porostů vypěstovaných z tohoto osiva v podmínkách ekologického zemědělství. Metodika přináší informace o možnostech využití širší druhové diverzity rodu Triticum L. v ekologickém zemědělství. Volba vhodného druhu nebo odrůdy pro konkrétní půdně-klimatické podmínky farmy je stejně jako volba osiva jedním ze základních stěžejních opatření, vedoucí ke zvýšení efektivity hospodaření na orné půdě. Kromě obecných zásad získá uživatel metodiky také informaci o specificích volby odrůdy pluchatých pšenic, s nimiž nemají ekologičtí farmáři tolik zkušenosti. As water deficiency becomes a more frequent cause of the reduction in wheat yield levels, the search for donors of drought tolerance to be bred into adapted land races becomes urgent. Drought tolerance has been evaluated by the 13C discrimination method in six land races of emmer wheat (Triticum dicoccum SCHRANK), compared with land races, obsolete cultivars and modern varieties of soft wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). The results of a two-year trial show that most of the genetic resources of emmer wheat, and intermediate land races of wheat are predisposed to drought tolerance. Ze strany ekologických zemědělců je zájem o pěstování jarních forem pšenice špaldy (Triticum spelta L.), proto jsme zhodnotili agronomicky významné znaky a pekařskou jakost šesti krajových odrůd jarní špaldy. Hodnocené odrůdy byly náchylné k chorobám pšenice a k poléhání. Výnos tvořily délkou klasu a hmotností tisíce zrn. Výnos zrna byl na nižší úrovni, ale hektarový výnos hrubého proteinu byl na stejné úrovni. Předností jarních špald byl vysoký obsah proteinu a mokrého lepku, který však byl slabší a méně bobtnavý. |
