| The biting force used by sheep was investigated in order to clarify the effect of bending and shearing properties of leaf blade sections of orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata). Five, 10, 15, 20 or 25 leaf blade sections per loadcell from basal and middle parts were offered to sheep. The three-dimensional biting forces were digitally recorded at 0.006-second intervals using the threedimensional loadcell. DM weight per mean biting force (benefit/cost ratio) was not significantly different among any treatments, and its grand mean was 16.7±1.1 mg-DM/N.
