Karyotype variation in neoplastic cells associated to severity of disseminated neoplasia in the cockle Cerastoderma edule ArchiMer
Matias, A. M.; Diaz, S.; Teixeira De Sousa, Joana; Villalba, A.; Carballal, M. J.; Leitao, A..
Disseminated neoplasia (DN) is characterized by an abnormal cell proliferation, usually resulting in death of the affected mollusks. In the present study we performed, for the first time, karyotypes of two different stages of DN in the cockle Cerastoderma edule. Analysis of moderate (N2) and high (N3) severity neoplasic metaphases displayed a chromosome number ranging from 57 to 317, instead of the normal diploid number of 38. Cockles with N2 showed a lower percentage of microchromosomes and a higher ploidy than those with N3. The comparison of both cytogenetic profiles contributes to better understand the evolution of DN in cockles.

Insights into Molecular Features of Venerupis decussata Oocytes: A Microarray-Based Study ArchiMer
Pauletto, Marianna; Milan, Massimo; Teixeira De Sousa, Joana; Huvet, Arnaud; Joaquim, Sandra; Matias, Domitilia; Leitao, Alexandra; Patarnello, Tomaso; Bargelloni, Luca.
The production of Venerupis decussata relies on wild seed collection, which has been recently compromised due to recruitment failure and severe mortalities. To address this issue and provide an alternative source of seed, artificial spawning and larval rearing programs were developed. However, hatchery-based seed production is a relatively new industry and it is still underdeveloped. A major hurdle in the European clam seed production is the control of spawning and reproduction, which is further hindered by the impossibility of obtaining fertile gametes by gonadal "stripping'', as meiosis re-initiation is constrained to a maturation process along the genital ducts. In the present study, oocytes were collected from 15 females and microarray analyses was...
