The present data-recording system used in the Seychelles to compile the tuna purse-seine statistics in the WIO was established by ORSTOM at the beginning of the fishery (1982/3) for the French fleet, and then extended to the Seychelles Fishing Authority (SFA) and Madagascar in 1991-92 for all fleets. After several modifications, it has been working efficiently for the last ten years, making it possible to build a very comprehensive tuna database for the purse-seine fleets since the beginning of the fishery. The extension to Madagascar started in 1992, within the framework of the Regional Tuna Project. A specific laboratory, the(Unité Statistique Thonière d’Antsiranana (USTA) was installed, the work being done in collaboration between ORSTOM, the Direction... |

The monofilament longline fishery targeting swordfish and tuna is practised actually in Seychelles by 8 local longliners (average length of 16 metres) and foreign longliners fishing under Seychelles licenses ( French and Indonesian longliners , averaging 34 metres and 25 metres in total length). Experimental trips by SFA’s research vessel were undertaken in 1994 and commercial trips started in 1995. The total landing catch increased from 215 mt in 1996 to 456 mt in 1999. The estimated catch rates varied from 0.64 kg/hook in 1996 to 0.92 kg/hook in 1999. Loss of catch due to predation by marine mammals (pseudorca crassidens) remains one of the major problem of this fishery. In 1999, 24 % of the total catch (109 mt of fish) was lost due to predation. The... |

This study aimed at comparing the nutritional quality of meat fatty acids (FA) of pasture-fed lambs reared organically or conventionally and offered two levels of herbage availability. Forty eight castrated male lambs of Limousine breed were used in a 2 x 2 experimental design, i.e. production system (Organic –O- vs. Conventional –C-) x level of herbage availability (High vs. Low). The O and C pastures differed in the level of on-pasture mineral N fertilization (0 vs. 100 U. ha-1. year-1) since 10 years. The level of pasture availability was managed to obtain a mean lamb age at slaughter of 5 vs. 6 months in the High and the Low level respectively. GLC analysis of fatty acids from the Longissimus thoracis muscle showed that organic farming system improved... |

La mention "Agriculture Biologique" sur un produit garantit une manière de produire, mais l’obligation de résultats est limitée à la conformation et l’état d’engraissement de la carcasse, d’où des questions sur les qualités alimentaires du produit viande. |
