| Hochwertiges Saatgut ist ein wichtiger Faktor zur Produktion gesunder Lebensmittel. Im ökologischen Landbau hat der Aufbau einer eigenen Züchtung daher hohe Priorität. Was unterscheidet die ökologische Pflanzenzucht von der konventionellen Züchtung? Sollen insbesondere die gleichen Techniken wie in der konventionellen Züchtung verwendet werden? | This report presents an analysis of the national reports according EC Regulation 1452/2003 of the years 2004 and 2005, recording the number of authorisations permitted, the quantity of nonorganic seeds used and the main reasons for allowing derogation for each crop (species). | Organic farmers often use winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars that have been bred under conventional high-input conditions. We test the hypothesis, whether old and organically bred cultivars are better adapted to low-input conditions through a better functioning of the symbiosis with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). Our aim is to assess the nutrient acquisition potential of old, new and organically bred winter wheat cultivars and to identify the role of AMF for nutrient uptake and growth. | The total organic area in the EU-27 had an annual average growth rate of nearly 15% from 1998 to 2006 with winter wheat being the most important cereal crop. Wheat yield in organic farming is around 30% to 70% of yield of conventional farming but higher premia for organic wheat may to some extent compensate for this. Bread wheat is grown in a variety of crop rotations and farming systems and four basic organic crop production systems have been defined. Nitrogen deficiency and weed infestation are considered to be the most serious threat in organic wheat production.
