| The AQUAREF group of experts has been asked to take position on the use of passive integrative samplers (PIS) in a Water Framework Directive (WFD) context. The main objective of this 2015 present note is to complete (as much as possible) the 2014 report concerning the possibility of using PIS in comparison with current regulatory surveillance, for the WFD reporting in coastal and continental waters. The SBSE extraction technique was also taken into account for hydrophobic organic substances, as this technique limits the drawbacks of water samples transport (substance degradation in water samples, extra-cost induced by sample volume and weight) for remote sites like French overseas territories. | The report prepared up within the AQUAREF program for 2015 provides recommendations to ensure the quality of passive sampling monitoring data. This type of sampling method could in the future be used in regulatory monitoring, and it seems necessary to prepare the tools, procedure that will be able to ensure the reliability of such data. The report first proposes an organization of the chain of responsibilities between: * the customer, * a pilot in charge of contacts with customer, sampling operations and of the the final report * and the laboratory which would be in charge of the analytical part on the passive sampling tool transmitted by the pilot.
