Reportamos un nuevo registro de Chinchilla chinchilla para la Región de Atacama, Chile. Se basa en ejemplares fotografiados por cámaras de movimiento en el Parque Nacional Nevado Tres Cruces y sus alrededores y por restos óseos y de fecas encontrados en laderas de cerros, ya sea con pendiente abrupta o con rodados, ambas formaciones con cuevas de mediano tamaño. No existen reportes científicos para esta especie en la Región de Atacama en los últimos cincuenta años. Se analiza el estado de conservación de la especie a la luz de los nuevos hallazgos de poblaciones en Chile y Argentina. |

Reproductive seasonality in tropical freshwater fishes is strongly influenced by rainfall. In lowlands, floods spill laterally to floodplains and fishes usually breed during the flooding season. In mountain rivers, floods are sudden and flush out aquatic organisms. Fishes in mountain rivers usually breed during dry seasons, what has been hypothesized as a strategy to reduce mortality due to strong floods. If that is the case, mouth-brooding fishes should suffer less from strong floods and should have more prolonged breeding seasons in mountain rivers. Abstract Although temperature has far-reaching effects on fish biology, the thermal tolerance ranges of most freshwater fish species are unknown. This lack of information precludes forecasting responses to climatic change and does not allow for comparative analyses that may inform evolutionary and biogeographic studies. We used the critical thermal methodology to quantify acclimation capacity and thermal tolerance in the Neotropical freshwater species Poecilia caucana .
