The purpose of this paper is to empirically show the importance of the social and joint responsibility certification to enhance the economic opportunities of family agriculture. Parallelly, it was tried to identify the most important obstacles in the area, from the different points of view, (political, social security and sanitary), in the region under study (Missões Gaúchas). This work provides a useful tool to the formulation of public policies in this area, approaching to the opinion of interviewed farmers in relation to their interest of taking part of that process and their expectations regarding to the future.

La cuestión ambiental, la sustentabilidad, una producción de alimentos más sanos son temas que cuentan con una universalidad conceptual, pero también dependen de disputas locales alcanzando así una universalidad social construida. Entender las posiciones sociales de los diferentes actores involucrados en la cadena productiva porcina permitirá identificar un contexto especifico en el cual se dan las diferentes visiones productivas que influyen en las acciones de los agricultores familiares. In a globalization scenario, agricultural families saw themselves compelled to searching new income sources which did not depend only on the primary section. Therefore, value aggregation within their domiciles got space, once they consist in profitable activities, decentralized and at low cost investment; being able to cover all the family labor together with external workforce in productive periods.
