| In this study we have attempted to answer whether there is correspondence between aquatic macroinvertebrate communities and the typological classification of white and clean-water streams in western Amazonia lowlands. We worked within two distinct hydrographic basins: Moa River catchment (clear-water streams) and Azul River catchment (white-water streams) in Serra do Divisor National Park, Acre State, Brazil, sampling 10 streams in each basin. A total of 2,952 individuals were collected, distributed among 134 taxa. Our results show that macroinvertebrate communities, at genus as well as family level, are in concordance to a priori classifications that distinguish between white and clear water streams. | Durante um programa de caracterização limnológica, foi avaliado um trecho do Rio Ribeira, contido na área de influência do futuro reservatório da UHE Tijuco Alto, através da comunidade macrobentônica. Em 4 campanhas de coleta, no período de XII/95 a IX/96, foram colhidas amostras de sedimento em 5 pontos do rio compreendidos entre o Córrego das Criminosas e o município de Eldorado, ambos no estado de São Paulo. | O presente estudo teve como objetivo verificar possíveis diferenças taxonômicas e funcionais entre as assembléias de Chironomidae que colonizam substratos orgânicos e inorgânicos estruturalmente distintos. Substratos poliméricos (isopor e tela de náilon), minerais (pedra de argila expandida e areia grossa) e orgânicos vegetais (detritos de Scirpus cubensis e Cabomba piauhyensis; detritos de madeira), contidos em sacos de náilon, foram submersos na Represa do Monjolinho. | The immature and adult stages of a new species of the genus Oukuriella Epler, 1986 from the Southeast of Brazil are described. The larvae, reared in laboratory to obtain adults, were obtained from submerged wood collected in a reservoir situated in the Jataí Ecological Station (Luiz Antônio, SP). According to Messias et al. (2000) the genus is composed of three species group. The adults of this new species congregate morphological characteristics of the Oukuriella - second group, which is characterised by wings without markings, abdominal tergites with setal tufts and gonostylus broad, 1,5x longer than gonocoxite, but is distinguished by different thoracic and abdominal pigmentation. | Parachironomus supparilis é uma espécie neotropical de larga ocorrência em toda a América do Sul. Embora o gênero tenha recebido detalhada revisão taxonômica, escassos têm sido os trabalhos de cunho ecológico, principalmente aqueles referentes à dinâmica numérica e aos padrões de emergência. | A new species of gall midge, Lopesia eichhorniae sp. nov. (Cecidomyiidae, Diptera), associated with rhizomes of Eichhornia azurea (Sw.) Kunth (Pontederiaceae) is described. This is the first record of Lopesia galls in this species of macrophyte, quite common in natural and artificial lakes in Southeast Brazil. Illustrations of the adults (male and female), pupa, larva, and gall of the new species are presented. |

| We describe the larval stage of Simulium cuasiexiguum Shelley, Luna Dias, Maia-Herzog & Lowry and Simulium obesum Vulcano and provide new distribution records of four black fly species in the State of São Paulo (Simulium cuasiexiguum, Simulium metallicum s.l. Bellardi, Simulium stellatum Gil Azevedo, Figueró & Maia-Herzog and Simulium oyapockense s.l. | Tanytarsus lenyae sp. n., T. giovannii sp. n., T. fittkaui sp. n. and T. alfredoi sp. n. from São Paulo State (Brazil) are described and diagnosed, the first as adult male and pupa, and the remaining as male, pupa and larva. The species were collected in areas of Cerrado, at the boundaries of São Carlos city. Complete diagnoses and drawings of the species are given.
