Ekologiskt korn som en utmaning - slutsatser av projektet "Växtvigör för ekologiskt korn" Organic Eprints

För att få höga kornskördar inom ekologisk odling skulle man utnyttja tidig sådd, biologiskt betat utsäde eller sjukdomståliga sorter. Bristen av betningsämnen och -metoder, som passar till ekologisk odling är en lika stor hinder för ökning av kornvikten och skördenivån som bristen av kväve. Skördar av ekologiskt korn kan dock höjas med flytgödsel eller urin, men de finns sällan tillgängliga för kornet. För att få högre halter av mineralkväve i jorden på våren, kan man som alternativ till gödselanvändning utnyttja sommarträdatekniken, där nedbrukning av förfruktsvallen börjar redan i Juli.

The results of this study suggest that stubble cultivation before ploughing is the most effective way to reduce the amount of E. repens when bringing the long-term ley to an end.

The effect of pre-crop and fertilization on baking quality of organic spring wheat Organic Eprints

Soil structure more than previous crop seemed to influence the development of organic spring wheat during the extremely wet growing season in 1998. However, the best soil structures and strongest wheat crops were found after clover leys and the poorest after peas. The most important determinant for the baking quality of the flour was the cultivar.

Finland’s policy of subsidising the conversion to organic production precipitated the rapid growth of organic farming in the 1990’s. As a consequence, many stockless farms encountered the problems of nitrogen deficit, poor grain quality, and weed control. Since the spreading of green mulch on cash crops is very common especially in tropical agriculture, organic fertilisers like green mulch may be an alternative that would compensate for the prohibition on the use of mineral N-fertilisers.
