Comparative study of total phenolic content and radical scavenging activity of conventionally and organically grown herbs Organic Eprints

The aim of the present study was to measure the relative phenolic content in commonly available conventionally and organically grown herbs and to evaluate their antioxidant capacity. Sage (Salvia officinalis), lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) and peppermint (Mentha x piperita) leaves, corriander (Corriandrum sativum) and fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) seeds were used in the present investigation. Total phenolic content (TPhC), measured by Folin-Ciocalteu method, and radical scavenging activity (RSA), using DPPH method were determined in infusions prepared from above mentioned herbs. The quality and safety through organic foods supply chain in Bulgaria Organic Eprints

The organic food market in Bulgaria is newly emerging and is comparatively small. The share of realized Bulgarian organic produce in the country is below 5 %. The purpose of this article is to determine the effect of the structure, management and functioning of food supply chain upon the quality and safety of organic food regarding consumer demand. The scientific research was based on Delphi’s enquiry method and 26 Bulgarian experts were interviewed. The results show that the nature and character of organic food production is one of the most secure and sustainable agricultural productions, which determines the high quality and safety of the final produce. Comparative Study of Consumers’ Perceptions and Attitudes to Organic Agricultural Products in Bulgaria and Romania Organic Eprints

The aim of the paper is to describe the perceptions and attitudes to organic products of a particular set of potential consumers in Bulgaria and Romania. Quality analysis according to the method of “focus groups” was used. The results obtained from the four focus groups conducted in Bulgaria and the two focus groups in Romania during the period April – May 2007 were analysed. Within this comparative study the different associations which potential consumers in Bulgaria and Romania have for organic foods come to the fore. Organic products – the choice of bulgarian mothers Organic Eprints

The goal of the presented survey is to analyse the perceptions and attitudes of the group of mothers with small children as consumers of organic products. The self–administered questionnaire survey method in the form of anonymous interviews following a standardised questionnaire was used for the purposes of the survey. Within the course of this research their knowledge and understanding of organic foods and foods’ attributes as a motive for purchase were examined. Complete analysis of data is done on the basis of purchase of organic foods: frequency of purchase of organic foods specially marked as such; buying as result of special demand for organic products; willingness of consumers to pay a higher price for organic foods.
