SUMMARY Euchirella paulinae spec. nov. is described and illustrated in extenso ; various structures are outlined in detail for the first time. The external morphology of the new species is discussed with reference to the other species of the genus. Some brief remarks are made about the anatomical terminology of the mouthparts of Copepoda, and on the necessity to always describe new species really scrutinously. INTRODUCTION In the course of a revision of the aetideid genera Euchirella Giesbrecht, 1888 and Pseudochirella G. O. Sars, 1920, an undescribed species of Euchirella was found in the material originating from the Danish "Dana" Expedition 1928-30. The new species will be reported upon separately in the present paper. Its tentative relationships with... |

INTRODUCTION The present paper deals with some morphological features found in the species of the genus Euchirella Giesbrecht, 1888, family Aetideidae. In the course of my studies on the genus, I noted that the structures situated on the anterior surface of the endopodites of the first pair of swimming legs, which will be described below, have never been given the attention they obviously deserve. In none of the principal works on Calanoida, e.g., Scott (1909), Sars (1924-25), Rose (1933), and Brodskii (1950) these structures are dealt with in the text. The same holds for the important reviews by Vervoort (1957, 1963), and Tanaka & Omori (1969). Although most authors somehow figure a row of spinules on the tubercle of the endopodite, their drawings are... |

The present paper deals with a sample of Copepoda collected by the crew of the Canadian weathership "P" in the northeastern Pacific, 50°N 145°W, on 22 September 1959 at 08.55 hours, depth 1200 m to the surface, the sample is labelled "V-3". All Copepoda Calanoida, with the exception of nauplii, have been removed from the sample and have been identified, many of the copepodids only as far as the genus. Though many Copepoda have now been described from the Pacific Ocean and the number of samples studied has reached a considerable total, its copepod fauna, particularly that of the deeper strata, is still far from satisfactorily known. This pertains particularly to the northern Pacific, an area which, in comparison to the extensively studied northern Atlantic,... |
