Maize kernel size and texture: production parameters, quality of eggs of the laying hens and electricity intake Animal Sciences
Vieira Filho, Javer Alves; Garcia, Edivaldo Antônio; Seraphim, Odivaldo José; Murakami, Elise Saori Floriano; Molino, Andréa Britto; Santos, Graciene Conceição dos.
The influence of maize corn size and texture on the performance parameters of laying hens and power consumption required for grinding maize corn were evaluated. The experiment was carried out on 384 Isa Brown hens, 36 weeks old, penned in a conventional aviary with 562.5 cm2 bird-1 stocking rate. The treatments were distributed in a completely randomized 2 x 3 factorial design (maize textures: flint and dent; and milling degree: fine, medium and coarse) with eight replicates of eight birds per plot. Data were evaluated with SISVAR and means were compared by Tukey’s test at 5% probability. Difference was reported for the variable texture and flint increased the variables feed intake and egg weight. Significant difference in the characteristics of egg...

Performance of Japanese quails fed diets with low-protein and isoleucine Animal Sciences
Santos, Graciene Conceição; Garcia, Edivaldo Antonio; Vieira Filho, Javer Alves; Molino, Andrea Britto; Pelicia, Kleber; Berto, Daniella Aparecida.
Aiming to assess isoleucine levels in low protein diets for laying Japanese quails, 648 quails of 182 days of age were distributed in experimental block design with six treatments and six replicates of 18 birds each. Treatments consisted of a basal level corresponding to 0.672% isoleucine and supplemented with isoleucine to the levels of 0.816, 0.960; 1.104; 1.248%. The experimental diets were compared to a control diet containing 20% CP. The parameters studied were: performance, egg quality, total solids and nitrogen in the excreta. There was a linear increase only for isoleucine intake with increasing levels of isoleucine in the diets. The comparison of mean values of each combination of isoleucine levels for diets with 16% CP with the control with 20%...

Productivity of japanese quails in relation to body weight at the end of the rearing phase Animal Sciences
Vieira Filho, Javer Alves; Garcia, Edivaldo Antônio; Molino, Andréa de Britto; Santos, Tiago Atônio dos; Almeida Paz, Ibiara Correia de Lima; Baldo, Grace Alessandra de Araújo.
Two experiments were conducted at different times with the objective of investigating how the body weight of Japanese quails at the end of the rearing period may alter the performance during the laying phase. In both experiments, the birds were distributed in five treatments according to their body weights, which were obtained at 42 and 35 days of age for the first and second experiments respectively, and the following categories were considered for said experiments: very light, light, average, heavy and very heavy. For both experiments, the treatments were distributed in a randomized block design, at eight repetitions per treatment for the first one and six for the second one, both at 18 birds per repetition. During the first experiment, sexual maturity,...

Effect of protease supplementation on production performance of laying hens Animal Sciences
Vieira Filho, Javer Alves; Geraldo, Adriano; Machado, Luiz Carlos; Brito, Jerônimo Ávito Golçalvez de; Bertechini, Antônio Gilberto; Murakami, Elise Saori Floriano.
The experiment was conducted with the objective of evaluating the effect of protease enzyme supplementation on performance parameters and quality shell of laying hens. We used 240 Isa Brown commercial laying hens with 44 weeks of age. A completely randomized split-plot design (5 periods of 21 days) with four treatments and six replications (10 hens per replication) was used. The experimental diets were formulated according to the requirements of the breed. The following parameters were evaluated: egg production, feed intake, feed conversion, average egg weight, egg loss, specific gravity, percentage and shell thickness. After collection, the data were analyzed with SISVAR Statistical Package, and the means compared by SNK test at 5% probability. It was...
