1. -Norwestlant expedition and the "Thalassa" cruise. The International commission of NW Atlantic fisheries (I.C.N.A.F.) organized from April to July 1963 a joint expedition in the Labrador Sea and the Irminger Sea, whose main purpose was to study cod and sebaste planktonic stages according to environmental conditions on the continental fringe of Labrador, Greenland and Iceland.Twelve vessels from Canada, Iceland, U.S.S.R., Norway, Denmark, United-Kingdom and France collaborated with this research in the different sectors that had been allocated to them.2.-The overall program was based on the following points: 1° assessing simultaneously cod and sebaste reproduction on the continental shelf and slope, through a large number of plankton fisheries; 2° looking... |

One of the first tasks delegated to the Moroccan Fisheries Institute was to establish an inventory of the fish stocks in Morocco and I was assigned to organise this inventory in late 1946. As soon as a team of scientists could be brought together, I set out to gather all the observations on the various species recorded caught during our outings on board fishing boats and during our regular visits to different fish landing ports. This inventory was set up to only include species for which their origin could be properly verified so that previously published data could be validated and completed with additional biological, ecological or taxonomic information. The aim was to not only produce a detailed inventory but also to provide a useful tool for biologists... |

Initiatives aiming at developing organic farming (OF) to meet water quality stakes are increasing. This article is a comparative study of four such projects. It is based on semi-structured interviews. Two logics for public action are implemented to foster the development of OF in areas facing water quality problems. The first one aims at concentrating actions in water sensitive areas. The main tool that is then mobilized is the use of localized agri-environmental measures supporting conversion to organic farming. The second logic aims at implementing actions for organic development at a geographical scale considered as relevant for developing OF and differing from water sensitive areas. The main actions that are then activated are coordination,... |
