Histomorphometric Adaptation of Yak (Bos grunniens) Abomasum to the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau Environment International Journal of Morphology
Wang,Jinbao; Zhang,Rui; Zhang,Lu; Wang,Changjiang; Shao,Baoping; Wang,Jianlin.
Six abomasums of yaks (Bosgrunniens) were studied with gross dissection and histological methods. It was found that the mucosa of the yak abomasum was covered with simple columnar epithelium. There were lots of spiral folds (10) in the fundic glandular area. The developed membrane of lamina propria was occupied by high density glands. According to the morphological characteristics of the glands, the abomasum was divided into the cardiac, gastric and pyloric glands. Cardiac glands were curved tubular glands with the intumescent bottom and small glandular cavity. Fundic glands were simple tubular glands or branched tubular glands, where the chief, parietal and mucous neck cells can be observed clearly. Pyloric glands were curled tubular glands, the closer to...

A Novel Path of Communication from Kidney to the Adrenal Gland in Bactrian Camels (Camelus bactrianus) International Journal of Morphology
Ye,Wenling; Wang,Fengling; Lv,Shuangyu; Wang,Yange; Dong,Shuo; Wang,Jianlin.
The adrenal gland is an important endocrine organ in vertebratesthat produces a wide variety of hormones. The anatomical results showed that the adrenal gland in Bactrian camel had a typical blood supply and innervation. Surprisingly, we found that there was a novel connection mainly consisted of fibrous tissue, blood vessels and nerve bundles between the adrenal gland and the kidney in Bactrian camel, and we named it fibrous tissue-blood vessels-nerve bundles (FBN bundle). To the best of our knowledge, this FBN bundle was the first reported in Bactrian camel, and not yet observed in other animals. While, its functions and mechanisms should be studied further. We speculated that a direct function of this novel path might be to strengthen the communication...

Histomorphometric Characterization of Forestomach of Yak (Bos grunniens) in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau International Journal of Morphology
Wang,Jinbao; Li,Haiyan; Zhang,Lu; Zhang,Yuan; Yue,Mingxia; Shao,Baoping; Wang,Jianlin.
Six forestomachs of yaks (Bos grunniens) were studied with gross dissection and histological methods. It was found that the forestomach of yak consisted of the following three parts, rumen, reticulum and omasum, which were composed of the mucosa, submucosa, muscularis and serosa. In addition, the mucosal epithelium was covered with stratified squamous epithelium, with part of keratinized the shallow cells. Rumen, the mucosa of which formed ligulate papillae varying in size and shape, was no muscularis mucosa. Reticulum, consisted of a surface epithelium that invaginated to various extent into the lamina propria, formed various folds in shape, namely, grid-like small rooms. Furthermore, there are many secondary folds densely covered with keratinized...

Immunohistochemical Study of Aquaporin 1 and 2 in the Reproductive Tract of the Bactrian camel (Camelus bactrianus) International Journal of Morphology
An,Fengli; Wang,Jianlin.
Spermatogenesis is associated with considerable fluid secretion or absorption in the male reproductive tract. Aquaporins (AQPs) are membrane protein channels that allow the rapid movement of water through epithelium. In the present study, immunohistochemistry was utilized to localize the expression of AQP 1, AQP2 in the testis and prostate of adult bactrian camel (Camelus bactrianus). Results show that AQP1 have intense reaction in rete testis, efferent ducts, vessels, seminiferous duct and in the prostate, AQP2 was found minor expression in the rete testis, vessels and prostate, which suggesting that AQP1 may have the main role in the absorption of the large amount of testicular fluid in male camel reproductive tract. Investigations of AQPs biology in...

Ultrastructure Features of Coronary Artery Endothelium in Bactrian Camel (Camelus bactrianus) International Journal of Morphology
Yuan,Guoqiang; Pan,Yawen; Li,Haiyan; Wang,Jianlin.
Vascular endothelium play an essential role in regulating endothelial functions by maintaining normal vascular tone, modulating hemostasis, and preventing thromobogenesis. The aim of present study was to reveal ultrastructure features of coronary artery endothelium in Bactrian Camels by means of scanning electron microscope (SEM) technology. The results showed that the endothelial cells distribute along the direction of blood flow. Their morphology and protuberant degree towards luminal surface vary for different parts of the coronary artery. The luminal surface of a.c oronaria sinistra and a. coronaria dextra was covered by impaired and intact endothelium, respectively. Platelets and leukocytes sticking to the endothelium were found.
