Northeast region is an important sugarcane production area of Thailand. Low yielding especially inratoon crop and only one year rationing ability make high cost of production. Therefore, it is very important to breed new cultivars which are very good ratooning ability. Promising sugarcane clones for this purpose, TP04-066 and TP04-080 are hybrid between clone 94-2-128 (84-2-646/U-Thong1) and H47-4991. Hybridization, selection and preliminary trial were carried on at Khon Kaen Field Crops Research Center from 2004-10. In plant cane, cane yield of TP04-066 and TP04-080 were the same as Khon Kaen 3. However, these promising clones had relatively higher cane yield than Khon Kaen 3 in 1st ratoon crop. TP04-066 and TP04-080 had medium sugar content. Therefore,...

Thai sugarcane clones are continuously developed to obtain new varieties from old outstanding clones. Most of good parents still gave good progenies. However, a few varieties are widely popular. According to this reason, the features of the 95 clones from recommended varieties, elite clones and land race clones were studied to find out good guidelines to utilize them to improve yield and high sugar content of new sugarcane clones. Each sugarcane clone was planted in 1 row per 5 meter long, and distance between row was 1.4 meters (harvest 3 meters) during April 2011 to April 2012 at Thaphra site, Khon Kaen Field Crops Research Center.
