Based on the University of New England's Aggregative Programming Model of Australian Agriculture (APMAA), estimates of own and cross-price elasticities of supply for wool, beef and wheat under two scenarios are presented by State, B.A.E. zone, farm type and for Australia as a whole. Where possible, these estimates are compared with previous estimates based on econometric analysis of time-series data. |

In this paper an extension of the work previously undertaken using the Aggregative Programming Model of Australian Agriculture for the analysis of the effects on Australian agriculture of changes in productivity is described. The impact of four specific improvements in technology, two in the sheep sector and one each of the beef and wheat sectors, are analyzed both separately and in combination. The rates of productivity growth resulting from the technological changes are measured both nationally and by State. Results are presented showing net farm income by State and for all Australia, as well as agricultural output for all Australia. |

Deriving acceptable farm plans where input-output coefficients are stochastic is a complex problem. Previous formulations have required many simplifying assumptions about the stochastic variables in the analysis. This paper presents an alternative approach based on the mean absolute deviation, which permits solution by a conventional linear programming algorithm whilst avoiding some of those assumptions previously required. The formulation also incorporates a stochastic objective function. Examples are provided using the situation of stochastic feed supply with reference to representative sheep-grain farms on the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales. Results from these suggest that this alternative approach is a distinct improvement on earlier stochastic... |
