Brachiopods from the Valdeteja Formation (Pennsylvanian; Cantabrian Mountains, NW Spain) Naturalis
Martínez Chacón, M.L.; Winkler Prins, C.P..
After a short introduction on the lower Pennsylvanian (Bashkirian to lowermost Moscovian)Valdeteja Formation in its stratigraphical context, an overview of its brachiopod faunas is presented and their palaeoecological and palaeogeographic importance discussed. Two new genera of the Strophalosiidina, showing adaptations to a reef environment, are described. The genus Ovetina (type species O. truyolsi gen. et sp. nov.) is an aulostegid with a well developed ventral flange. Miroproductus (type species M. posadai gen. et sp. nov.) is an early richthofenioid, probably derived from an aulostegid such as Institina MUIR-WOOD & COOPER, 1960.

Some spiriferid Brachiopods from the Permian of Timor (Indonesia) Naturalis
Winkler Prins, C.P..
The study of neospiriferine and spiriferidine brachiopods from the Permian of Timor (Indonesia) present in the collections of the Nationaal Natuurhistorisch Museum (National Museum of Natural History, Leiden, The Netherlands) resulted in a revision of the species Spirifer timorensis Martin, 1881 and Crassispirifer broilii Waterhouse, 2004 and the description of a new species, Latispirifer archboldorum sp. nov. Also, a new genus, Archboldiella, is created, based on the aberrant species Spirifer basleoensis Hayasaka & Hosono, 1951.

Adaptations to hard substrates in Pennsylvanian productides (Brachiopoda) from the Cantabrian mountains (North-West Spain) Naturalis
Martínez Chacón, M.L.; Winkler Prins, C.P..
The Pennsylvanian deposits with carbonate platforms and reef structures from the Cantabrian Mountains are briefly described. The main portion of this paper is dedicated to the discussion of the adaptations of the Productidina from these Pennsylvanian formations of the Cantabrian Mountains to their life on hard substrates, comparing them with similar forms found elsewhere, notably in the Mississippian of northwest Europe and the Permian of Texas. In the systematic part, an indeterminate Plicatiferini is described as well as a new genus, Bruntonoconcha, and the new species Limbifera bruntoni, Parmephrix candemuelensis and Bruntonoconcha celadensis.

Brachiopoden Naturalis
Winkler Prins, C.P.; Amler, M.R.W..
A tabular review of the Lower Carboniferous (Mississippian) brachiopods from Germany is given combined with data on their stratigraphic and palaeogeographic distribution. A complete revision proved impossible since too many groups are in need of an extensive reassessment, and many species are poorly known due to their inadequate preservation. Many species are accompanied by comments on their taxonomic status as an explanation of the current state of knowledge.

The role of Spain in the development of the reef Brachiopod faunas during the Carboniferous Naturalis
Winkler Prins, C.P..
After a short introduction on the reef development during the Late Palaeozoic, the tectono-stratigraphic history of the Cantabrian Mountains (northern Spain) during the Carboniferous is discussed, with an emphasis on the tectonically active Pennsylvanian (i.e., Late Carboniferous). The reef-bearing Valdeteja, San Emiliano, and Cuera formations are briefly described, and their brachiopod faunas are discussed with special emphasis on adaptations to a reef environment. The brachiopod faunas are compared with similar faunas from carbonate-platform deposits with reef structures of Mississippian (i.e., Early Carboniferous) age from Northwest Europe (the British Isles in particular), with Pennsylvanian-Permian faunas from the Alps, Urals, Spitsbergen and Arctic...
