Sepsis is recognized as a major cause of mortality and highcosts in intensive care units around the world. There are severalchanges that gastroenteritis, especially that caused by parvovirus,can cause in the physiological parameters of patients affected,such that the hematological and biochemical profiles, as well asin hemodynamics, observed most often in cases of severe sepsisand septic shock. This study aimed to evaluate the frequencyof SIRS, sepsis, severe sepsis and septic shock in 50 dogs withgastroenteritis treated in the emergency room, and later requiredhospitalization for intensive care.
