Consumer acceptance of Taiwanese food products in Japan : Case studies of banana and frozen edamame OAK

The main objective of this study is to explore the possibility of enhancing Taiwanese agro-products’ competitiveness, which are the main exported agro-products to Japan and into the Japanese retail market. To reach this objective, a consumer survey with bananas and frozen edamame as a case study was carried out. Six hundred consumers living in Obihiro city were participated in our study. Data were used: 1) to assess the position of Taiwanese agro-products in comparison with competing countries’ products in Japanese retail market in terms of country image (price, safety, deliciousness and appearance); 2) to analyze Japanese consumers’ preference structure on bananas and frozen edamame quantitatively base on the choice experiment analysis.
