These comments discuss the presentations by Christy, Wenner, and Dassie ("A Microenterprise-Centered Economic Development Strategy for the Rural South: Sustaining Growth with Economic Opportunity") and Freshwater ("What Can Social Scientists Contribute to the Challenge of Rural Economic Development?") in three sections.
