Contribution to an Integrated Analytical Framework for the Study of the Relations between and within Agro-Food Firms AgEcon
Zanasi, Cesare; Rota, Cosimo.
The globalization of markets, increased specialization in customers services, shorter lead times, are among the main factors influencing the change in firms organization. The firms disintegration is growing, leading to an increased demand for collaborative management along the supply chain. The relationship between economic agents represents a central aspect to be analysed in order to understand this new context which is “neither a perfectly planned structure, nor a merely spontaneous one” (Benassi M., 1995). These considerations are particularly interesting when applied to firms belonging to the agrofood system. They include very different technical-economic typologies as well as cultural and managerial backgrounds. In this context the role of vertical...

Impact of the Introduction of an e-CRM Solution in the Feed Industry: The Case of Progeo-Mangimi AgEcon
Zanasi, Cesare; Marconi, Gianni.
Feed industry is very demanding in terms of logistics. This activity implies supplying, processing and, most of all, distributing perishable products (raw materials and feed), to a very large number of clients, often scattered in wide market areas (animal farms) with different qualitative, quantitative and timing needs. So far the use of ICTs within the feed industry in Italy regarded mostly the production phase in terms of feed composition optimisation, and the internal logistics. External relationships like e-CRM, etc.. have so far been rarely adopted. For many Italian small and medium enterprises, mostly in the agro-food sector, the diffusion of ICTs solutions for the management of their client relationship has been quite slow. The aim of this paper is...

Sustainable Relations in International Development Cooperation Projects: The Role of Human Resource Management and Organizational Climate AgEcon
Zanasi, Cesare; Rota, Cosimo.
The importance of organizational issues to assess the success of international development project has not been fully considered yet. An analysis of the literature on the project success definition, focused on the success criteria and success factors, was carried out by surveying the contribution of different authors and approaches. Traditionally projects were perceived as successful when they met time, budget and performance goals, assuming a basic similarity among projects (universalistic approach). However, starting from a non‐universalistic approach, the importance of organization’s effectiveness, in terms of relations sustainability, emerged as a dimension able to define and assess a project success (Belassi W., Tukel O.I., 1996). Based on previous...

Relationship between ethics and Fair Trade supply chain organisation and performance: the case of Italian Alternative Trade Organisations (ATO’s) AgEcon
Zanasi, Cesare; Paluan, Lorenzo.
Fair Trade related import from developing countries is quickly growing although it still represents a small share of the total import. Its influence on the development of rural areas in developing countries is related to both quantitative growth and the respect of its ethical code. Large food multi-national companies are increasingly interested in Fair Trade; part of the Fair Trade movement considers the risk of a related loss in the products’ identity; others consider the refusal of a more "professional" approach to Fair Trade management as a constraint to its growth. This debate is particularly felt in Italy. The goal of this paper is to evaluate how the most important Italian Fair Trade importers (ATO’s) business models influenced their growth...
