Se detectaron los agentes causales Phyllachora maydis Maubl., Monographella maydis Müller & Samuels y Coniothyrium phyllachorae Maubl., en el Valle de Mochitlán y otros Municipios del Estado de Guerrero. La enfermedad causó pérdidas del 55.1 % de la producción. Ochenta y un híbridos y 25 variedades de polinización libre de maíz evaluadas en esta zona contra este complejo de fitopatógenos no escaparon a la infección; sin embargo, los híbridos H-513×CML47, HEIixH-H-513 y H-513×CM374 exhibieron 7.29, 7.35 y 7.95 % de severidad, y fueron los más tolerantes. Such knowledge allows the exact and adept development of sampling methods, control methods and risk valuation. Despite its importance, there have been few studies of the spatial distribution of head smut of corn in Mexico. This study aimed to determine the spatial distribution of this disease during the year 2007 in the State of México and to establish its spatial behavior with geostatistical techniques.
