This work aims at verifying the competitiveness of the Brazilian soybean in relation to European Union and the of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum. To do so, the Revealed Comparative Advantage Index (RCAI), and the Regional Orientation Index (ROI) were used. The findings show that Brazil has been presenting a positive Revealed Comparative Advantage Indexes on the considered period and these were increasing except during the years of 1995, 1996, 1999 and 2003. The reason of these drops off may be related to the high exchange rates between 1995 and 1998 and, due to variations in the Brazilian and World soybean exportations. The ROI result concerning the European Union indicates that the exports are concentrated to the block. Although, this rate... |

The objective of this paper is to weave hermeneutic considerations and philosophies concerning ethics, economy and climate, with a specific focus on the relationship between Kant's categorical imperative and the question of improved sustainability. The economic perspective of Georgescu-Roegen has been considered, to this end. Although economy, ethics and biology constitute distinct fields of specialization, this work seeks to show reasons for which this perspective could be seen as an intersection between the three disciplines. The article concludes with the message of Georgescu-Roegan, held in his saying “minimal bioeconomic program” in accordance with the fundamental precepts of the Kantian ethics, in respect to the question of sustainability. |

Based on analysis of Brazilian economic indicators in the period 1995-2010, this paper aims to establish a comparative evaluation between FHC and Lula governments. The results indicate that the main macroeconomic and social variables as well as public finance indicators and external financial situation of the country showed a more virtuous behavior during Lula’s government. It is noticed that, especially regarding to macroeconomic policies, Lula did not cause significant changes in relation to what was already being implemented at the end of FHC government. Therefore, most of the results should not be attributed to the superiority of management but to the fact that the international economic environment was more favorable to Brazil in the period of... |

The aim of this paper is to check if there is a relation between the wheat prices of the Argentinian and the International market, if these markets are integrated in space. For that, it was used as time reference the period from January, 1994 to April, 2009. Unit root tests, Granger causality, Johansen cointegration, estimation of the impulse response function, decomposition of error variation and estimation and analysis of the error correction model were used. The results indicated that variations in the international prices of wheat were almost completely transmitted for the run long. However, it is not possible to affirm that the Argentinian and the International markets are perfectly integrated even if they have a higher transmission of prices This is... |

The objective of this paper was to verify the market power of the Argentinean, Brazilian and American exports of soymeal to the European Union, the main consumer market of this commodity. For that, the article is based on the methodology of residual demand. Using the methods Seemingly Unrelated Regression (SUR), Two-Stage Least Squares (2SLS) and Three-Stage Least Squares (3SLS), the results indicated that, though this segment is concentrated by Argentina, Brazil and the United States, none of these countries presented market power for soymeal exports. In other words, they are not able to change soymeal prices without to decrease the exports |
