The North Dakota Input-Output Model: A Tool for Analyzing Economic Linkages AgEcon
Coon, Randal C.; Leistritz, F. Larry; Hertsgaard, Thor A.; Leholm, Arlen G..
North Dakota's input-output model has become an integral part of many economic research activities involving state issues. Since its development to analyze the economic impacts associated with irrigation development in the 1960s, the model has been updated and used to analyze the effects of a wide variety of projects in North Dakota, Because the model is used and referenced frequently by economic researchers, the nontechnical audience often requests additional information to explain the input-output model and the theory behind it. The purpose of this report is to explain the principles of input-output analysis, to describe the structure of the North Dakota model, and to explain how to interpret the results that might be found in a feasibility or economic...

Composition of North Dakota's Economic Base: A Regional Analysis AgEcon
Coon, Randal C.; Leistritz, F. Larry; Hertsgaard, Thor A..
The economic base of North Dakota and its eight substate regions has changed over the past couple of decades. This report takes an in-depth look at the economic base for each of these areas over the 1958-1984 period. Each of the regions has a unique composition of basic activities that have been responsible for its growth. Natural resource related activities, either in the form of agricultural or energy production, have been the largest source of real economic growth within the state. The purpose of this report is to identify the components of the economic base at substate levels and to show the changes in relative composition for these activities. Price and production data are presented to support and explain the changes that have occurred.

A MODEL FOR PROJECTING LOCALIZED ECONOMIC, DEMOGRAPHIC, AND FISCAL IMPACTS OF LARGE-SCALE PROJECTS AgEcon
Leistritz, F. Larry; Murdock, Steven H.; Toman, Norman E.; Hertsgaard, Thor A..
For rural areas in which large scale industrial and resource development projects are located, the need for timely projections of the magnitude and location of economic, demographic, fiscal and other likely impacts is clearly apparent. The purpose of this paper is to describe a computerized model for projecting the effects of large scale developments on business activity, personal income, employment, population, requirements for selected public and quasi-public services, and public sector costs and revenues and to demonstrate the utility of the model for projecting local area impacts. The structure, data base, and interrelationships of each of the model's six major components are described. Its validity in simulating economic and demographic changes at...
