Kupfer: Wo stehen wir heute? Organic Eprints

Rückstände in Kürbisgewächsen Organic Eprints
Wyss, Gabriela; Speiser, Bernhard; Thönen, Melanie; Stampfli, Natalie.

In consideration of: • the lack of organic juveniles reported by some MS; • the restriction on the movement of live animals between countries and regions based on the Council Directive (EC) No 88/20062; • the reluctance of farmers to introduce on their farms animals which could be unsuitable for the local (geographical) environment (e.g. genetic or population traits, resistance to different diseases, growth performances, reproductive cycle, behavioural characteristics, etc.); and • the lack in the Commission Regulation (EC) No 889/20083 of specific organic rules for managing the life cycle stage between the hatching and the weaning of juveniles, the Group supports the use of non-organic juveniles, for on-growing purposes, when organic aquaculture...

Milan, Marlene; Bickel, Regula; Speiser, Bernhard.
The aim of the «Quick Scan» project is to provide an inventory of current procedures concerning residue cases in organic products. To this end, experts were interviewed about the current situation in their respective countries. 19 control bodies (CBs), 29 control authorities (CAs) and 5 food companies returned a completed questionnaire. The following 25 EU Member States are covered in the Quick Scan: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and UK. Improved field margins highly increase slug activity in Switzerland Organic Eprints
Eggenschwiler, Lisa; Speiser, Bernhard; Bosshard, Andreas; Jacot, Katja.
Most field margins on arable land in Switzerland are narrow and intensively managed. As a consequence, field margins generally harbour few plant and animal species. To enhance biodiversity in arable landscapes, sown species-rich field margins, so-called improved field margins, were introduced in 2008 as a part of the Swiss agri-environment scheme. Here, we tested whether improved field margins increase slug activity density. Slug activity density in and next to improved field margins was compared to slug activity in and next to conventional field margins. Over a period of 3 years, slugs were sampled in three regions in northern Switzerland in late spring using bait stations. Our results show that improved field margins have higher slug activity density, of...

Direct plant protection in organic farming Organic Eprints

Versuche 2003 mit neuen Kartoffelsorten für den Biolandbau Organic Eprints
Speiser, Bernhard; Amsler, Thomas; Tamm, Lucius.
Durchschnittlicher Ertrag; Knollen oval, gelbschalig; Kochtyp B; schlecht lagerbar. Die Versuche werden 2004 fortgesetzt. Corolle: Frühe Speisekartoffel. Guter Ertrag; Knollen lang-oval; Schale gelb, glatt; Kochtyp B; mässig lagerbar. Da Corolle...

Policy brief on the organic approach to inputs – Plant protection products, fertilisers, veterinary drugs and feed additives explained Organic Eprints

The plant and animal health care strategy in organic farming strengthensagro-biodiversity, protects the environment as well as animal and human health. In addition to fully exploiting preventive options, the use of external inputs such as plant protection products, fertilisers or veterinarymedicinal productsis allowed to prevent inacceptable losses in productivity or animal suffering. However, external inputs need to comply with organic standardsas well as European legislationand aretherefore carefully evaluated before any decision on acceptance is taken.Organic farming systems should aim at reducing dependency on off-farm fertilisers to the lowest feasable level to ensure closed nutrient cycles and avoid nutrient leakage and contamination. This policy...
