Orbituary : Jakob Verseveldt: The Hague, 8 February 1903 - Zwolle, 29 March 1987 Naturalis
Verseveldt, J..
At the very time that the manuscript of the present paper was ready to be submitted for publication, the senior author, Dr. Jakob Verseveldt, in spite of his age, unexpectedly passed away on 29 March 1987 in his resident town, Zwolle, the Netherlands. Jakob Verseveldt was born on 8 February 1903 in The Hague, the last but one of twelve children (eight sons and four daughters) of the textile-dealer Teunis Jan Verseveldt and Pieternella Vriens. He received his primary and secondary education in his native town and graduated in 1921. In the same year he entered the University of Leiden to study biology and geology. In particular under the guidance of Prof. Dr. P. N. van Kampen, Prof. Dr. E. D. van Oort (both zoology) and Prof. Dr. J. M. Janse (botany), to...

Report on a few Octocorals from Eniwetok Atoll, Marshall Islands Naturalis
Verseveldt, J..
In 1969 Dr. Arthur G. Humes, Boston University, Massachusetts, U.S.A., collected a number of octocorals at Eniwetok Atoll, Marshall Islands. He found that most of these corals were the hosts of copepods, just like the corals collected by him in the waters north-west of Madagascar (vide Verseveldt, 1969: 3). It was with great pleasure that I identified the corals for him. As appears from the survey of the material most of the species are wellknown, with the exception of two species one of which is redescribed below, while the other is described as a new species: Sinularia marenzelleri (Wright & Studer, 1889), this species being insufficiently described by previous authors, and Sinularia brongersmai spec. nov., which is named in honour of Dr. L. D....

Revision of the Genera Bellonella, Eleutherobia, Nidalia and Nidaliopsis (Octocorallia: Alcyoniidae and Nidalliidae), with descriptions of two new Genera Naturalis
Verseveldt, J.; Bayer, F.M..
Nineteen species of Alcyoniidae formerly assigned to various genera are here placed in the genera Bellonella and Eleutherobia; three new species are described in Bellonella. Sixteen species characterized by an abundance of capstans among their sclerites, formerly assigned to Alcyonium, Bellonella and Nidalia are now transferred as valid species or synonyms to the genus Eleutherobia, in which two new species are described making a total of 14 valid species. A new genus Inflatocalyx is established for a digitiform subantarctic species having only very few sclerites, in the form of nearly smooth spindles, and polyps retractile within large, inflated calyces. Six species comprising the genus Cactogorgia are transferred to Nidalia, and three new species are...

The Octocorallian genera Spongodes Lesson, Neospongodes Kükenthal and Stereonephthya Kükenthal Naturalis
Verseveldt, J..
The type specimens of Spongodes celosia Lesson and of spicata Wright & Studer are redescribed. They are conspecific and must be called Stereonephthya celosia (Lesson). Most probably, Spongodes digitata Wright & Studer is also a Stereonephthya species. The validity of the genus Neospongodes Kükenthal is discussed. The species N. portoricensis must be transferred to the genus Stereonephthya, but the generic name Neospongodes must be maintained for N. atlantica Kükenthal. N. bahiensis Kükenthal is conspecific with N. atlantica.
