Bolivian Rhinotragini V: new species of Erythroplatys White, 1855, Rhinotragus Germar, 1824, Ornistomus Thomson, 1864, and Aechmutes Bates, 1867 (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae). Six new species are described: Erythroplatys boliviensis, Rhinotragus antonioi, Rhinotragus monnei, Ornistomus simulatrix, Aechmutes boliviensis, and Aechmutes subandinus. The female of Erythroplatys simulator Gounelle, 1911 is redescribed, and the male for the first time. Ornistomus bicinctus Thomson, 1864, Aechmutes lycoides Bates, 1867 and Aechmutes armatus Gounelle, 1911 are formally excluded from the fauna of Bolivia. All the species are illustrated, and host flower records provided. |

ABSTRACT Representativity of the genus Asphondylia Loew, 1850 (Diptera, Cecidomyiidae) in Brazil. This cosmopolitan genus includes 272 galling species described, of which about 100 occur in the Neotropical Region. The present study goal to evaluate the richness of Asphondylia in Brazil, to provide an updated list of the host plant species, to determine the plant organs where galls are induced, to update the geographic distribution of the genus, to verify it distribution in the Brazilian biomes, and to the list the associated fauna. The survey data was carried out by consulting the Cecidomyiidae collection of the Museu Nacional/UFRJ, the database “Web of Science” using Asphondylia and Brasil/Brazil as keywords, 51 Brazilian inventories and two catalogues.... |

The Cerrado region still receives relatively little ornithological attention, although it is regarded as the only tropical savanna in the world considered to be a biodiversity hotspot. Cerradão is one of the least known and most deforested Cerrado physiognomies and few recent bird surveys have been conducted in these forests. In order to rescue bird records and complement the few existing inventories of this under-studied forest type in the state of São Paulo, we looked for published papers on birds of cerradão. Additionally we surveyed birds at a 314-ha cerradão remnant located in central São Paulo, Brazil, from September 2005-December 2006 using unlimited distance transect counts. Out of 95 investigations involving cerradão bird studies, only 17 (18%)... |

Anomaloglossus praderioi was originally described as Colostethus praderioi by E. La Marca in 1998 on the basis of two male specimens. The present paper provides a redescription of the species on the basis of new material from Maringma Tepui in Guyana and an additional specimen from Sierra de Lema in Venezuela. The redescription includes descriptions of the tadpole and vocalisation. Anomaloglossus praderioi is a medium-sized species mainly distinguished from its known congeners in having Fingers I, II and IV equal in length, the tip of Finger IV barely reaching the base of the distal subarticular tubercle on Finger III when fingers are adpressed, Fingers II and III with preaxial keel-like lateral folds, toes basally webbed with folded flaplike fringing... |

Abstract In this study we perform an inventory of the insect galls in savanna and forest sites of Hidrolândia, Goiás, Brazil. We found 150 insect gall morphotypes, distributed on 39 botanical families and 104 plant species. Among the insect galls, 81 gall morphotypes were recorded in the savanna site and 73 in the forest site. The plant taxa richest in insect galls were the family Fabaceae with 22 gall morphotypes, the genus Bauhinia (Fabaceae) with 15, and the species Siparuna guianensis (Siparunaceae) with seven gall morphotypes. We found gall-inducing insects belonging to orders Diptera, Coleoptera, Lepidoptera and Thysanoptera. The galling insects of family Cecidomyiidae (Diptera) were the most common inducing 48.1% of the gall morphotypes. This is the... |
