An assessment of crop production using crude and mechanized implements in some parts of Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo state was undertaken. This was to investigate the use of mechanized implements over crude implements in crop production.Thestudy areas considered were IITA, AJIBADE, OLORISAOKO and MONIYA. The data generated were gathered through oral interview, discussion, questionnaires and routine sources. These data were analyzed with the use of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). An edge texture features based methodology for bulk paddy variety recognition CIGR Journal

The paper presents a method for recognition of paddy varieties from their bulk grain sample edge images based on Haralick texture features extracted from grey level co-occurrence matrices. The edge images were obtained using Canny and maximum gradient edge detection methods. The average paddy variety recognition performances of the two categories of edge images were evaluated and compared. A feature set of thirteen texture features was considered and the feature set was reduced based on contribution of each feature to the paddy variety recognition accuracy. Kola nut pod breaking is a very tedious task manually; therefore its mechanization is essential for effective processing.  The objectives of this study are to design and fabricate a kola nut pod breaking machine and performance evaluation of kola nut pods breaking machine.  Some physical and mechanical properties required for machine design were determined using standard methods.  The machine was powered by an electric motor, with the hammer attached to the shaft using a drum with a rope tension of 171.68N, cross–sectional area of 5.027 x 10-5m2 and 3414.90 kN/m2 tensile stress.  The speed of the machine used by the pulley was 308.57 r/min to operate. An electromechanical implement lift system with position control for low horse power tractor CIGR Journal

An electromechanical implement lift system comprising of two lower links, one top link, two lift rods, one connecting rod and power screw mechanism fitted on a frame was developed with position control to replace the commonly used hydraulic system for implement lifting requiring higher power. The prototype was tested as per IS: 12224-1987 for recommended load of 150 kg on test frame and satisfactory results were found. The response time for lifting a load of maximum lifting capacity on test frame i.e. 116 kg and 110 kg for entire lifting range was found to be 71 s and 20.7 s for single start screw and triple start screw, respectively as compared to 44.7 s and 13.3 s for lowering the loads. An expert system for planning and designing dairy farms in hot climates CIGR Journal

Anaerobic co-digestion of cocoa husk with digested swine manure: evaluation of biodegradation efficiency in methane productivity CIGR Journal

The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential of methane production from anaerobic co-digestion of coco husk with digested swine manure.  The experiment was set up in the batch system.  Inoculum utilized in this experiment was derived from semi-continuous reactor run at steady state condition, with 25 days of hydraulic retention time and mesophilic condition.  The temperature applied in this experiment was maintained under mesophilic condition, which was 35oC.  The highest methane productivity generated from anaerobic co-digestion of cocoa husks (CH) with digested swine manure was 345.8 ± 7.82 mL/day, which was higher compared with the anaerobic digestion of digested swine manure alone (286.97 ± 16.8 mL/day).  CH reactors had less methane...

For sustainable agriculture a fair balance between different categories of input energy with optimum output need to be established. The main objective of this paper was to investigate the energetics of wheat production for long term (20 years) in central India through a large scale survey which focused on (i) Farmers categories wise energy use pattern (ii) operation wise energy use pattern (iii) source wise energy use pattern. Analysis of energy uses in cassava production in North-Central Nigeria CIGR Journal

Energy inputs and yield relationship in cassava production was investigated to establish correlation between inputs and output in cassava production in Nigeria. Production data of energy inputs and crop yields were collected from 54 cassava farms in twelve cassava producing villages through site visits, interaction with the farmers and physical measurements for three production seasons (2013-2016). The data were analyzed statistically. Amount of inputs per hectare were calculated and multiplied by coefficients of energy equivalents. Analysis of nozzle spray distribution for different nozzle height and pressure CIGR Journal

A patternator was designed and constructed with the aim of field sprayers pattern testing and consequently application of more accurate weed control, reduce environmental and economic costs associated with weed control. The patternator was tested at six spray height (50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100 cm) for each of the three levels of system pressure (1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 bar). All measurements were performed spraying water with a temperature of 20 oC in the laboratory.
