The hatchery-nursery from the Société Atlantique de Mariculture settled in Barfleur studied within the ECOTRON program set up by C.N.E.X.O. the characteristics of mass cultures for monospecific phytoplancton and of the rearing of oyster spat (Ostrea edulis. Crassostrea giqas) and clam spat (Venerupis semi­decussata) . The maintenance features of the cultures in order to obtain cell densities around 1 million cell/ml. (or 50 g. of dry weight/m3) in containers up to 5000 liters have been established for the main species used in aquaculture (Isochrysis qalbana. Monochrysis lutheri, Tetraselmis suecica. La sensibilité des larves de pectinidés aux conditions d’élevage : le flux ouvert comme alternative aux mortalités massives ArchiMer

In many countries, aquaculture of pectinids depends on the success of artificial spat production in hatchery. This production is always unpredictable due to the variability of hatching rate and larval survival. Flow-through larval rearing systems were developed in Norway for the King scallop Pecten maximus and showed promising results. Unfortunately the system needs to be optimized since the larval yields and the densities used are still relatively low. In France, a small-scale (5 L) and high-density (≤ 300 larva mL-1) flow-through larval rearing system was successfully developed for oysters. First trials in such system and in similar conditions with P. maximus failed as we registered slower growth and high mortality rate in only a few days. It is known...

L'aquaculture du Macrobrachium rosenbergii aux Antilles Francaises ArchiMer

The aquaculture of Macrobrachium rosenbergii is launched in Martinigue by the regional council in 1976. A first "green water" type hatchery is built and provides juveniles to the first ponds. In 1978, CNEXO is asked to cooperate in scientific assistance. A new hatchery is built with COP "clear water" system and produces in 1980. The development of ponds (20 ha) needs the increase of the hatcheries capacity, which is now done with one single method and intensive larval first stage (7-8 millions PL. cap). In Guadeloupe, the first ponds started in 1978. Two cooperatives and 11 ha of ponds at this time have determined the construction of CNEXO in the construction of a regional hatchery. A small light one is already under production since July 83.

Il s’agissait i) de mettre en place un réseau de suivi de la qualité de l’eau, ii) de déterminer la qualité de chaque élevage larvaire dans le but de mettre en évidence un lien éventuel entre la qualité physico-chimique de l’eau de mer et la production conchylicole en écloserie, iii) mettre en évidence, l'influence de l’eau utilisée pour l’élevage, à court-terme, sur la « qualité » physiologique de l’algue fourrage T-iso utilisée pour nourrir les larves et à plus long-terme vérifier si ses capacités de croissance ainsi que sa «qualité» physiologique sont susceptibles d’être modifiées en fonction de la qualité de l’eau issue du polder.
