The objective of this study was to determine proanthocyanidins and anthocyanins content and their antioxidant activity from four pigmented rice: Black glutinous, Homnin, Man-Pu, Sangyod by extract with 6 different solvents: DI water, 1%HCl-DI water, Ethanol, 1%HCl-Ethanol, Acetone, 1%HCl-Acetone. The results showed that the proanthocyanidin and anthocyanin contents were different between rice phenotypes and polarity of solvents (p<0.05). The total proanthocyanidin contents followed the order: Man-Pu, Sangyod, Homnin, Black glutinous. The highest proanthocyanidin content was found in ethanolic extract of Man-Pu rice (0.938 mg ECE/mg extract). Black glutinous rice contained high amount. Saline soil is a major problem that affects growth and productivity of rice. Spermidine (Spd), a member of polyamine (PA), is a plant growth regulator playing essential roles in protecting many crop plants under salinity stress. The objective of this study was to explore the roles of exogenous spermidine in protecting salt-stressed rice plants by evaluating its effects on three physiological indicators of plant stress. Rice genetic utilization in terms of health product development that could draw up public attention is a significant scheme for rice genetic conservation particularly for traditional varieties. There are two levels of utilization; local and high-end level. Luempua is a traditional dark-purple traditional rice variety that undergone the study and development of health products for the local community level during 2011-2013 aiming for at least 1 easy to do product prototype each year. Luempua is a dark-purple glutinous upland rice belongs to the Mong hilltribe. The origin prior to the time of seed purification was the mountainous area 450 m above sea level. The variety is normally grown in the wet season under upland condition. To obtain the information for appropriate time of sowing and growing with water as for the lowland sowing, Luempua was sown by transplanting in the cement container every 15 days from 2010-2013 at Phitsanulok Rice Research center (PSL). Results revealed that the most appropriate time of sowing is from mid to the end of May and the lowland areas especially those prone to Brown planthopper infestation are not recommended. Light intensity is an important factor affected rice growth and productivity. A comparative study on the effects of light intensity were investigated in three cultivars of black glutinous rice No.19, 27 and 51. Seeds were hydroponically grown for 30 days then divided into 3 groups: grow under natural light condition (300 Klux) and under low light condition 2 levels (3 and 1 Klux) using shaded net. The effect of light intensity on four growth-stages including; seedling, tillering, heading and maturity was observed. The results showed that the low light intensity caused decrease fresh weight, dry weight and anthocyanin contents in all cultivars.
