Some parts of an irrigated area in the upper northern region, rice cultivation will be done in both dry and wet seasons. Glutinous rice varieties are still preferable for farmers due to high yield and suitability for people’s cultural consumption. To enhance the growth of rice production, the researchers of Rice Research Center in the region have been conducted the research and development on rice varietals improvement continuously to gain the desirable new varieties. The results showed the dominated 2 new promising glutinous rice lines, PRE96016- SPT-25-2-2-1-1 and PRE98002-PAN-B-1-3-3, by crossing method of IET 12011/SML and KKNLR75051-PMI-68-1/PHRAE1 for each lines respectively. This activity was carried out during 2009 – 2012 under the project on research and development of upland rice for the upper Northeastern Thailand by KKN_RRC, CPA_RRC, SKN_RRC, UDN_RRC, NRM_RRC, NKI_RRC and UBN_RRC. Ten accessions of Pa-yah Leum Gaeng collected from farmers’ fields and 1,458 other upland rice accessions from the NRGB were evaluated for their adaptation and farmers acceptance on agronomic characteristics, grain quality and eating quality. The selected Pa-yah Leum Gaeng are glutinous upland rice with erected plant type, moderately strong stem and long-slender leaf with light green color. The internode color is yellow. Development of local rice variety at Krabi Rice Research Center is an experiment under local upland rice breeding program in the southern region for compensating rubber trees and oil palms. One hundred and twenty rice varieties that farmers grow in the southern region were selected to study since 2008 until now. The aims of this study are to record the characteristics, categorize, investigate, select pure rice seed, compare production and test on using nitrogen fertilizer. The result showed that this variety, Dokkha, is photoperiod sensitive. It has 332 kg per rai, straight clum 150 cm plant height and 145 - 150 days maturity, green leaves, 8 seeds per panicle, straw colored husk, 20.74 % amylose content and susceptible to rice blast disease. Objective of this study was to compare four cultivars/lines of aromatic green soybean for fresh pod yield, seed yield, and storage quality. For yield assessment, the experiment was conducted under field conditions in the dry seasons and the late rainy seasons during November 2009 to February 2011 in a randomized completed block design with five replications. For storability study, the experiment was undertaken in a laboratory using a split plot design in completly randomized design with three replications. In the dry season, two lines of aromatic green soybean (MJ0108-11-5 and MJ0101-4-6) had higher fresh pod yield (314 and 299 kg/Rai) and seed yield (281 and 294 kg/Rai) than did the standard check (Kaori). The harvesting period is about 10-14 December. The average yield is 2.8 tons/ha, whereas Plai Ngahm Prachinburi (PNG) is 2.0 tons/ha. The percentage of the yield is over PNG about 35%. The variety has good elongation ability. The result had shown good performance at water level 110 cms depth. It was better than RD19 (deepwater rice) but less than Pin Gaew 56 (Floating rice). The average of plant height is 218 cms (depend on water level). The reactions of bacterial leaf blight and brown planthopper of KBN432 is susceptible.
