Sugarcane clone SRS2000-5-14 is a new open-cross hybrid of RT96-018 variety developed at Suphan Buri Field Crops Research Center in 2000. The selection and yield evaluation has started since 2001 at Sukhothai Agricultural Research and Development Center using sugarcane seedling of 11 crosses, comprising of 3,280 clones. The 1st and 2nd selections were carried out in 2001-2003. Then preliminary yield trials in 2003-2006, standard yield trials in 2004-2008 and regional yield trials in 2006-2009 were conducted. The selection criteria was based on more than 5% higher yield, sugar content (CCS) greater than 12, good ratoon ability and widely adaptation to rainfed area in Lower North Region. Sugarcane white leaf disease caused by phytoplasma is a serious problem for sugarcane production in Thailand. The pathogen can mainly be transmitted by insect vectors such as leafhoppers, and through seed cane. Planting of disease free seed cane is an important method for reducing the disease. However, the plants may be re-infected by insect vectors. Therefore, the disease free seed cane utilization to decrease the disease was evaluated during 2006 - 2011. The objective was to evaluate yield potential and quality of 19 promising sugarcane clones compare with 6 checked cultivars, U-Thong 3, Suphanburi 80, Khon Kaen 3, LK92-11, K84-200 and K99-72 at Nakhon Sawan Field Crops Research Center during Mar 2011- Jan 2012. Experiment was conducted to compare 4 method of Cultivation practice for cane production under drought condition at Banrai Sugar Industry Farm, Noen Kham district, Chainat province in 2009. The experimental design was RCBD with 5 replications, there were 4 treatments, i.e.:1)soil mulching by rotary plow after using ripper in interrow, 2) soil mulching by only rotary plow, 3) planted jack bean and 4)no cultivation (control). The results showed that soil moisture underground moved upward into root zone of cane when ripper was used in interrow and followed by using rotary plow for soil mulching. Objective of this study was conducted to determine the diversity and relationships among commercial sugarcane varieties in Thailand. The pedigree in each variety was traced back to the original ancestors. The coefficient of parentage was calculated from records of 70 varieties, and a dendrogram was drawn using the unweighted pair-group method using arithmetic averages (UPGMA) of clustering. Pedigree data showed that Thai commercial varieties were only bred from 26 exotic varieties. The analytical results indicated that many sugarcane varieties had higher close relationship with OCSB3 (37.3%) than UT1 (20.4%). All four soils were classified as Typic Paleustults.They were deep soils with well drained feature. Eight improved clones of forage-cane were evaluated for biomass yield performance under irrigatedcondition at Kasetsart University, Kamphaeng Saen campus, Nakhon Pathom during 2011-2012. The study wasdesigned with randomized complete blocks design with 4 replications in 3 crop-cycles, newly planted, first-ratoon and second ratoon that harvested at 6, 4 and 4 month after planting/ratooning, respectively. Total fresh biomass yield from 3 crop-cycles was 40.47 ton/rai. The total yield of 3 crop-cycles varied between 27.44 and 46.46 ton/rai. High biomass yield obtained from the new clones 28-2113, 28-2114 and 28-1727 that were equal to 46.46, 44.86 and 42.96 ton/rai, respectively. Household income and expenditure of farmers in Lao PDR: Comparison between rubber tree and sugarcane farmers Thai Agricultural

The objective of this study was to compare household income and expenditure between rubber tree and sugarcane farmers. The purposive sampling technique was used for data collection, and a structured questionnaire was used to interview a total of 100 farmers. A descriptive analysis was applied. The results indicated that in 2000-2010, the household income of rubber tree farmers was higher than those sugarcane farmers, especially in long run. The household consumption has increased during 2000-2010. The rubber tree farmers expensed their consumption in food item more than rice, but it was contrary for the sugarcane farmers. Sugarcane variety: U-Thong 84-11 (clone 02-2-226) is the hybrid of clone 93-2-085 (85-2-352 x K 84-200) and clone 92-2-065 (88-2-070 x K 84-200). The hybridization was carried out in 2002, followed with 1st and 2nd selection in 2003-2004. Clone evaluation was carried out during 2005-2010 with preliminary yield trial, standard yield trial and farm trial respectively as breeding procedure. The results indicated that U-Thong 84-11 gave the average yield of 18.24 ton/rai in irrigated area, 30% higher than check variety (K84-200). The phylogenetic analysis of phytoplasmas focused on the nucleotide sequences of the intergenic 16s-23s rRNA spacer region that primers enable the amplification of a 210 bp fragment by nested-PCR, are established for studying of genetic diversity of phytoplasma associated with diseases of sugarcane and some grasses in Thailand. In this present study, 99 phytoplasma infected sugarcane samples exhibiting various phenotypic symptoms and 15 samples of grasses showing white leaves were collected from many locations in Thailand and subjected for nucleotide sequencing. Climate change can directly affect crop production due to the increases of CO2 and temperature, and indirectly via weather variability especially rainfall. Sugarcane is important crop for Thailand, and large proportion are planted in Northeast of Thailand. Therefore this investigation is conducted to evaluate the impacts of climate change on yield of sugarcane in this region from 2010 to 2049, using ECHAM weather data downscale to 20x20 km by PRECIS as input to CANEGRO crop model in DSSAT program. Results showed that climate change has small effect on long term changes in sugarcane production. However average yield is highly variable, both spatially and temporally.
