Misinterpreting by localism: transposing European geology and tectonics onto Antillean islands Naturalis
Donovan, S.K..
Le Grand (1988, pp. 80-81, 97) defined ‘localism’ “when geologists are most influenced by data found close to them in time and space and within their own disciplinary specialties”. Jamaica has been prone to localist interpretations made by some of its most notable geologists.

Island formation and tectonic processes Naturalis
Draper, G..
Tectonic processes can form an island in one of two ways. 1. Those processes that cause a rise in water levels and flooding a pre-existing topography, known as tectonic flooding. 2. Those processes that cause uplift of the basin floor to form a topography that emerges above water level, called tectonic emergence.

Tectonics, islands and island hopping in the Early Palaeozoic benthos Naturalis
Harper, D.A.T.; Liljeroth, M.; Rasmussen, C.M.Ø..
Analyses confirm the roles of the oceanic provinces as both cradles and museums of evolution (Harper & Mac Niocaill, 2002), with reference to the development of the global brachiopod fauna through the Floian-Sandbian (mid Early – early Late Ordovician) interval. Moreover, groups of taxa with particularly widespread distributions during the Dapingian-Darriwilian were possible island hoppers, taking advantage of the spectrum of disparate terranes generated by the magmatic and tectonic activity of the period.
