Rhizocephalan parasites of the crab Pugettia brevirostris, with notes on Sacculina gracilis 16
Boschma, H..
The present paper deals with two parasites of the crab Pugettia brevirostris, the one representing the new species Sacculina reinhardi, the other identified with Sacculina muricata. The excrescences of the external cuticle of Sacculina reinhardi are similar to those of Sacculina gracilis. For a comparison of S. gracilis with S. reinhardi some additional data of previously described specimens of S. gracilis are here noted and figured, to show that certain characters of this species are constantly different from the corresponding peculiarities in the only available specimen of S. reinhardi. Sacculina reinhardi nov. spec. 1) U. S. Bureau of Fisheries, Northwestern Pacific Cruise, 1906, in entrance of Uraga Strait, Gulf of Tokyo, Japan, 70 fms., October 26,...

Two new species of Gyrocotyle (Monogenea from Chimaerids (Holocephali)) 16
Land, J. van der; Dienske, H..
INTRODUCTION Species of the genus Gyrocotyle are quite common intestinal parasites of chimaerids. As far as we now know, each parasite species is restricted to one host species. In each host species, however, a second and much rarer species of Gyrocotyle may occur besides the common one. The common species are systematically related to each other, and so are the rare ones. In the present paper two species of the group of rare species are described. Their existence has been known already for a long time, but, for different reasons, they have never been recognized as separate species. DEFINITION OF SOME TERMS Ι. Spines. — We recognize two types of spines in the genus Gyrocotyle, viz., the urna-type and the confusa-type. In spines of the urna-type the...

The Rhizocephalan parasite of the crab Xantho incisus (Leach) 16
Boschma, H..
As shown by Holthuis (1954), the correct name for the European crab commonly referred to as Xantho floridus (Montagu) is Xantho incisus (Leach). A Rhizocephalan parasite of this crab was first mentioned (without an indication of specific characters) by Gerbe (1862); afterwards specimens were recorded by Kossmann (1873), who suggested that they might be identical with his Sacculina benedeni, the parasite of the crab Pachygrapsus marmoratus (Fabricius), at present considered identical with Sacculina carcini Thompson. Bonnier (1887) used the name Sacculina gerbei Giard for the parasite of Xantho incisus; this name was, however, not mentioned in any of the several papers by Giard dealing with Rhizocephala. In the present paper the parasite is referred to with...

Notes on the two Species of Siphunculata or Sucking-lice occuring on Rattus spp. in the Malayan and Pacific Regions, with Special reference to Java 16
Thopson, G.B..
In another paper (Thompson, 1938) attention is called to the fact that specimens of lice from any of the numerous species and subspecies of the widely distributed genus Rattus and its allies should prove interesting, and might possibly throw some light on the relationships of their hosts. The notes contained in this paper are primarily based on a collection of lice obtained by Dr. Felix Kopstein from various species of Rattus in Java. I should like to express my gratitude to Dr. Kopstein for the opportunity of examining this interesting collection. It is to be hoped that these notes may stimulate interest in the lice of rats. The Indo-Australian and Pacific regions have a particularly rich rat fauna and specimens of lice from any forms are needed for...
