Leaching of Imidazolinones in Irrigation Systems in Rice Cultivation: Sprinkling and Flooding Planta Daninha
HELGUEIRA,D.B.; ROSA,T.D; MOURA,D.S.; GALON,L.; PINTO,J.J.O..
ABSTRACT: Herbicides of the imidazolinone group have been used in irrigated rice and presented a long persistence in the soil, especially in floodplain areas with a low drainage, and could cause environmental contamination. This study aims to evaluate the leaching and residual of herbicides belonging to the imidazolinone group in sprinkler and flood irrigation systems. The experiment was carried out under greenhouse conditions, with the application of the herbicides imazethapyr, imazethapyr + imazapic, and imazapyr + imazapic in soil irrigated by flooding and sprinkling. Subsequently, the soil was collected from the layers of 0-5, 5-10, 10-15, 15-20, and 20-25 cm and packed in 500 mL capacity plastic pots in order to sow tomato as a bioindicator plant of...

Rates of Nicosulfuron Applied in Glyphosate-Tolerant and Sulfonylurea-Tolerant Soybean Planta Daninha
SILVA,A.F.M.; ALBRECHT,A.J.P.; SILVA,G.S.; KASHIVAQUI,E.S.F.; ALBRECHT,L.P.; VICTORIA FILHO,R..
ABSTRACT: STS cultivars tolerate up to four times higher rates of chlorimuron than those recommended for non-tolerant cultivars, without significant damage. However, few studies position the selectivity of nicosulfuron in STS cultivars. The aim of this study was to assess the selectivity of rates of the herbicide nicosulfuron applied in the post-emergence (V4) of RR/STS soybean. The experiments were conducted in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons in Piracicaba, SP. In the 2016/17 season, the experiment was also conducted in Palotina, PR. Treatments consisted of six rates of the herbicide nicosulfuron (0, 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 g a.i. ha-1). The experimental design was a randomized block design with four replications. The symptoms of injury were assessed...

ANTAGONISM IS THE PREDOMINANT EFFECT OF HERBICIDE MIXTURES USED FOR IMIDAZOLINONE-RESISTANT BARNYARDGRASS (Echinochloa crus-galli) CONTROL Planta Daninha
MATZENBACHER,F. O.; KALSING,A.; DALAZEN,G.; MARKUS,C.; MEROTTO JR,A..
ABSTRACTHerbicides mixtures are used in many situations without the adequate knowledge related with the effect on major target weeds. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of different herbicides mixtures used in irrigated rice in order to establish the adequate combinations for the prevention and management of herbicide resistance in barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crus-galli). Three experiments were performed at field conditions with all major post-emergent herbicides used in irrigated rice in Brazil. The first experiment was performed with barnyardgrass resistant to imidazolinone herbicides and herbicides applied at label rates. The second and third experiments were performed with barnyardgrass resistant and susceptible to imidazolinone...

Potential of plant species for bioremediation of soils applied with imidazolinone herbicides Planta Daninha
Galon,L.; Lima,A.M.; Guimarães,S.; Belarmino,J.G.; Burg,G.M.; Concenço,G.; Bastiani,M.O.; Beutler,A.N.; Zandona,R.R.; Radünz,A.L..
Imidazolinone herbicides present physicochemical characteristics that allow them to persist longer in environment, with increased chances of soil and water contamination, as well as carryover effects on subsequent crops. Phytoremediation is shown as a promising technique to decontaminate soils polluted by herbicides. The aim of this study was to assess the potential of some winter grown species in removing residuals from soils contaminated with imazethapyr + imazapic and imazapic + imazapyr, using pre-emergence to control weeds in summer grown rice fields. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design, with four replications. All species were subjected to herbicide application at different doses. Imazethapyr + imazapic and imazapyr +...

Resistance of Amaranthus retroflexus to acetolactate synthase inhibitor herbicides in Brazil Planta Daninha
Francischini,A.C.; Constantin,J.; Oliveira Jr.,R.S.; Santos,G.; Franchini,L.H.M.; Biffe,D.F..
When in competition with cotton, Amaranthus retroflexus can cause high yield losses. Due to the limited availability of selective herbicides registered for post emergence control of this weed, the same herbicides have been used repeated times over the last few years, which may have selected resistant biotypes. Biotypes of A. retroflexus collected from the main areas of cotton cultivation in Brazil were submitted to dose-response trials, by applying the herbicides trifloxysulfuron-sodium and pyrithiobac-sodium in doses equivalent to 0, ¼, ½, 1, 2 and 4 times the recommended rates. Resistance to ALS inhibitors was confirmed in biotypes of A. retroflexus. Biotype MS 2 from Mato Grosso do Sul, was cross-resistant to both trifloxysulfuron-sodium and...

Abstract It is believed that ALS inhibitor herbicides in combination with ACCase inhibitors can be used as an alternative to glyphosate in weed control in RR2/STS soybeans. In the present study, the efficacy of ALS inhibitor herbicides, in combination with haloxyfop, is evaluated in the control of weeds for post- emergence application (V4) of RR/STS soybeans. The experiment is carried out in the 2017/18 season in Piracicaba, Sao Paulo (SP), Brazil. The cultivar BMX Garra RR2/STS is used, and the treatments were composed by the application of ALS inhibitor herbicides in association with haloxyfop. The experimental design was a randomized block with four replications. Were evaluated control and dry mass of weeds, symptoms of injury in soybean plants and...

Scarce research has been published concerning the effect of soil pH on the leaching potential of herbicides in tropical soils. Thus, we designed this study to evaluate the influence of soil liming on the leaching of trifloxysulfuron-sodium and pyrithiobac-sodium after simulated rainfall depths in soil columns. In the study, two trials were conducted simultaneously; the first experiment evaluated trifloxysulfuron-sodium (7.5 g ha-1), while the second experiment evaluated pyrithiobac-sodium (70 g ha-1). Both experiments were conducted in a randomized block design with a 2 x 4 x 5 factorial scheme and four replications. The design’s factors corresponded to 2 soil liming conditions (with or without liming), 4 simulated rainfall depths (0, 15, 30, and 45 mm)...

Multiple resistance to glyphosate and imazethapyr in Bidens subalternans Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Mendes,Rafael Romero; Adegas,Fernando Storniolo; Takano,Hudson Kagueyama; Silva,Vanessa Francieli Vital; Machado,Fellipe Goulart; Oliveira Junior,Rubem Silvério de.
ABSTRACT Glyphosate has been widely used to control greater beggarticks populations that are resistant to acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibitors in South America. However, herbicide control failures has been observed over the last three growing seasons in grain production areas of Paraguay. In this research, we report the first case of multiple resistance to glyphosate (EPSPs) and imazethapyr (ALS) in greater beggarticks (Bidens subalternans) population from Paraguay. This conclusion was supported by dose-response experiments conducted in two consecutive years (2018 and 2019) with a putative resistant (R) and a susceptible (S) population. Alternative herbicides were also tested for post-emergence control of R population. For glyphosate, the resistant...
