Performance and egg quality of laying hens fed diets containing aflatoxin, fumonisin and adsorbent Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Siloto,EV; Sartori,DRS; Oliveira,EFA; Sartori,JR; Fascina,VB; Berto,DA.
The effects of aflatoxin and fumonisin and their combination on egg production and quality, as well as the efficacy of a mycotoxin adsorbent in reducing or eliminating these effects in commercial layers. A number of 168 layers with initial age of 37 weeks were submitted to an experimental period of 56 days. A completely randomized experimental design in a 3x2+1 factorial arrangement was applied (3 treatments with mycotoxins: aflatoxin (AF), fumonisin (FU), or aflatoxin + fumonisin (AF+FU); 2 treatments with or without adsorbent; and a control group that was fed no mycotoxins, nor adsorbent), totaling 7 treatments with 6 replicated of 4 birds/cage. The dietary inclusion levels were 1ppm AF, 25ppm FU, and 2 kg adsorbent/ton feed. Birds fed AF presented the...

PERFORMANCE AND NUTRIENT METABOLIZABILITY IN BROILERS FED DIETS CONTAINING CORN CONTAMINATED WITH FUMONISIN B1 AND ESTERIFIED GLUCOMANNAN Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Oliveira,EM; Tanure,CBGS; Castejon,FV; Castro,RMAD; Rocha,FRT; Carvalho,FB; Andrade,MA; Stringhini,JH.
ABSTRACTAn experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance and nutrient metabolizability of broilers fed diets containing fumonisin B1 (FB1) and an esterified glucomannan (EGM). In total, 420 male broilers were distributed according to a 3 x 2 + 1 factorial arrangement, corresponding to three FB1 exposure times (seven, 21, or 35 days), two dietary glucomannan addition levels (0 or 0.1% EGM), and control diet, totaling seven treatments. The following diets were fed: 1) Control diet, 2) pre-starter diet containing FB1, 3) pre-starter diet containing FB1 and 0.1% EGM, 4) starter diet containing FB1, 5) starter diet containing FB1 and 0.1% EGM, 6) grower diet containing FB1, and 7) grower diet containing FB1 and 0.1% EGM. On d 7, broilers fed FB1...

Chemical characterization of agroforestry solid residues aiming its utilization as adsorbents for metals in water AGRIAMBI
Luzardo,Francisco H. M.; Velasco,Fermin G.; Alves,Clemildes P.; Correia,Ivea K. da S.; Cazorla,Lázaro L..
In this work, a study of the correlation between the functional groups present in the chemical structure of the fibers of coconut shells, cocoa and eucalyptus, and their adsorption capacity of Cd+2 and Cu+2 ions from water was performed. The content of soluble solids and reactive phenols in aqueous extracts were determined. The chemical functional groups present in the fibers were examined using the IR spectra. The adsorption capacity of the peels was determined using atomic absorption spectrophotometer. For Cd+2, a significant correlation between the adsorption capacity and some specific chemical functional groups present in the fiber was verified. The potential use of these peels, as adsorbent of Cd+2 ions, is based on the presence of OH functional...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of hydrate sodium calcium aluminosilicate (HSCAS; Detox®) in binding aflatoxin (AF) and ameliorating their mycotoxicity in meat type duck diets. Measurement the growth performance and pathology by HSCAS were supplemented to 60 or 120 ppb AF contaminated diets at either 0.10 or 0.20%. Body weight gain were reduced by 21.45% and mortality was increased by 7.50% in duck fed diet contaminated with AF at 120 ppb compared to duck fed control diet (30 ppb AF) for the 4 wk experimental period. However, dietary HSCAS supplementation effectively alleviated overall toxicity induced by AF. The significant treatment-related changes in feather growth, eye necrosis, web-toe hemorrhage, leg deformity, tibia bone porosity,...

Efficacy of Low-cost Activated Carbon in the Removal of Active Compounds in Pharmaceutical Industrial Wastewater CIGR Journal
Ijaola, Opololaoluwa Oladimarun.
Pharmaceutical wastes are emerging organic contaminants, mostly unregulated and on the increase. This study evaluates the potential of low-cost activated carbons derived from bamboo in remediating Pharmaceutical actives contaminants (PhACs) and compared with Oclansorb. Two species of bamboos were processed into activated carbons using ZnCl2, KCl, and H3PO4. Selections of the bamboo adsorbents were based on porosity and surface area using BET analysis. Batch adsorption process was used with contact time as bench mark for comparison. Carbonized Bambusa vulgaris (CBV350OC H3PO4) has the highest surface area (SPAS) of 30.1342 m2/g when compared to other adsorbents while carbonized Oxythenantera abyssinica  (COA 350OC KCl) gave the highest pore size (AAPW)...
