In silico analysis of binding interaction of conantokins with NMDA receptors for potential therapeutic use in Alzheimer’s disease J. Venom. Anim. Toxins incl. Trop. Dis.
Batool,Maleeha Waqar and Sidra.
Abstract Background The N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors are glutamate receptors that play vital roles in central nervous system development and are involved in synaptic plasticity, which is an essential process for learning and memory. The subunit N-methyl D-aspartate receptor subtype 2B (NR2B) is the chief excitatory neurotransmitter receptor in the mammalian brain. Disturbances in the neurotransmission mediated by the NMDA receptor are caused by its overexposure to glutamate neurotransmitter and can be treated by its binding to an antagonist. Among several antagonists, conantokins from cone snails are reported to bind to NMDA receptors. Methods This study was designed to analyze the binding mode of conantokins with NMDA receptors in both humans...

Biological control of white mold by Trichoderma harzianum in common bean under field conditions PAB
Carvalho,Daniel Diego Costa; Geraldine,Alaerson Maia; Lobo Junior,Murillo; Mello,Sueli Corrêa Marques de.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate Trichoderma harzianum isolates for biological control of white mold in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris). Five isolates were evaluated for biocontrol of white mold in 'Perola' common bean under field conditions, in the 2009 and 2010 crop seasons. A commercial isolate (1306) and a control treatment were included. Foliar applications at 2x109 conidia mL-1 were performed at 42 and 52 days after sowing (DAS), in 2009, and at 52 DAS in 2010. The CEN287, CEN316, and 1306 isolates decreased the number of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum apothecia per square meter in comparison to the control, in both crop seasons. CEN287, CEN316, and 1306 decreased white mold severity during the experimental period, when compared to the...

In vitro biocontrol of tomato pathogens using antagonists isolated from chicken-manure vermicompost Phyton
Barocio-Ceja,NB; Ceja-Torres,LF; Morales-García,JL; Silva-Rojas,HV; Flores-Magallón,R; Ochoa-Estrada,S.
The objectives of this study were to (1) isolate and identify pathogenic fungi from vegetative material with wilt symptoms in tomato plantations belonging to the Cienega of Chapala, Michoacán, Mexico, and (2) determine the antagonistic capacity of Trichoderma sp. and Aspergillus spp. isolated from chicken-manure vermicompost. Pathogens were isolated by means of a completely randomized sampling in 6 locations; 9 plantations were inspected and 45 plants with symptoms of the disease were selected. Portions of root and stem were disinfected and placed on potato-dextroseagar acidified (PDA). Antagonists isolation was made from a dilution of chicken-manure vermicompost of 1 x 10-2 in PDA medium culture more streptomycin and tetracycline. The antagonistic...

Evaluation of Trichoderma spp. and Clonostachys spp. Strains to Control Fusarium circinatum in Pinus radiata Seedlings Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Moraga-Suazo,Priscila; Opazo,Alex; Zaldúa,Salomé; González,Gastón; Sanfuentes,Eugenio.
The fungus Fusarium circinatum Nirenberg & O’Donnell causes pine pitch canker, an important disease for conifers worldwide. F. circinatum was first detected in Chile in 2001 and to date is present in nurseries and clonal hedges from Libertador General Bernardo O’Higgins Region to Los Rios Region. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the potential of Trichoderma spp. and Clonostachys spp. strains to control F. circinatum in Pinus radiata D. Don seedlings in the absence of other effective control methods. Eighty-one Trichoderma spp. and Clonostachys spp. strains were evaluated through in vitro assays to determine their ability to act as antagonists of F. circinatum and 21 strains were tested for their ability to reduce post-emergence mortality...

Biological control of banana black Sigatoka disease with Trichoderma Ciência Rural
Cavero,Poholl Adan Sagratzki; Hanada,Rogério Eiji; Gasparotto,Luadir; Coelho Neto,Rosalee Albuquerque; Souza,Jorge Teodoro de.
Black Sigatoka disease caused by Mycosphaerella fijiensis is the most severe banana disease worldwide. The pathogen is in an invasive phase in Brazil and is already present in most States of the country. The potential of 29 isolates of Trichoderma spp. was studied for the control of black Sigatoka disease under field conditions. Four isolates were able to significantly reduce disease severity and were further tested in a second field experiment. Isolate 2.047 showed the best results in both field experiments and was selected for fungicide sensitivity tests and mass production. This isolate was identified as Trichoderma atroviride by sequencing fragments of the ITS region of the rDNA and tef-1α of the RNA polymerase. Trichoderma atroviride was as effective...
