The Arteries Root from the Aortic Arch in the Sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus, Falconiformes: Accipitridae) International Journal of Morphology
Balkaya,Hulya.
This study was aimed at determining the morphology of the aortic arch in the sparrowhawk. For this purpose, arteries near the heart of six sparrowhawks were assessed. Latex injection method was applied to the three materials and barium sulphate solution was injected into the aorta for angiography in three other materials. It was observed that two major arteries arose from aortic arch in the sparrowhawk: the left brachiocephalic trunk and the right brachiocephalic trunk. These trunks were contiguous arteries but separately originated from the aorta. The brachiocephalic trunks were divided into the common carotid and subclavian arteries after their origins. First, the common carotid arteries are given off by the brachiocephalic trunks. The common carotid...

Two Cases of Left Vertebral Artery Emerging from a Trunk in Common with the Left Subclavian Artery from the Aortic Arch International Journal of Morphology
Ottone,Nicolás Ernesto; Casola,Leandro; Cirigliano,Vanina; Oloriz,Lucero; Blasi,Esteban Daniel; Medan,Carlos Daniel; Algieri,Rubén Daniel.
Anomalies arising in the embryological development of the aortic arch and its branches are essencial in the emergence of variations in the origin and course of supra aortic vessels. Classically, 95% of cases, the aortic arch gives rise to the brachiocephalic artery, left common carotid artery and left subclavian artery. While the left vertebral artery arises normally from the left subclavian artery. In this presentation we describe two cases of the left vertebral artery being born of the aortic arch. The importance of anatomical knowledge of this arterial variety is fundamental for base neck and aortic arch surgery, in cervicothoracic trauma that compromises the vascular elements and in endovascular procedures in the region.

Variation of the Origin of Aortic Arch Branches: In Relationship with Plates of Atheroma International Journal of Morphology
Yeri,Luis A; Gómez,Jorge E; Fontaneto,Sergio; Espósito,Marcia.
The aortic arch branches variations have called the attention of several authors, who have handled studies and classifications, both human and in different animals. The common trunk, which is between the brachiocephalic trunk and the common left carotid artery, is the most common variation. We conducted a descriptive and randomized study of the presence of the trunk mentioned before, trying to establish the possible relationship between this variation and the distribution plates of atheroma. The lumen observation makes it possible to define and check the distribution of the ostium, among the common ostium and the ones with common trunks. Regarding the plates of atheroma, it was found that there is a slight prevalence in common trunks cases, with respect to...

Tracheal Compression by Aberrant Brachiocephalic Trunk Accompanying Variant Origin of the Vertebral Artery International Journal of Morphology
Yang,Kiwook; Park,Jae-Hee; Moon,Yong-Suk; Kim,Hong-Tae; Lee,Jae-Ho.
The aorta is the main arterial trunk in the human body, however, its variation was extremely variable. During an educational dissection, aberrant branching pattern of aortic arch was found in a Korean cadaver. The brachiocephalic trunk (innominate artery) originated from the aortic arch at the left side of the trachea. It crossed the trachea and divided into the right common carotid and subclavian arteries. The left vertebral artery originated from the aortic arch between the origins of the left common carotid artery and the left subclavian artery, then the left vertebral artery coursed upward to the transverse foramen of the C7. The author describes this previously novel case report with aberrant brachiocephalic trunk and left vertebral arteries and...
