The presence in Lebanon of Offneria murgensis and Offneria nicolinae, two characteristic components of the Early Aptian Arabo-African rudist faunas, fills a distributional gap of the corresponding assemblage between the Arabic and African occurrences, on the one hand, and the Apulian occurrences, on the other hand. This fauna bears out the palaeogeographic placement of Lebanon on the southern Mediterranean Tethys margin established by palaeostructural reconstructions. The associated micropaleontological elements suggest an earliest Aptian age (early Bedoulian) for the Offneria murgensis - O. nicolinae assemblage found in the "Falaise de BLANCHE" stratigraphic interval, instead of a late Early Aptian age as proposed for most of the peri-Adriatic and Middle... |

Thirty seven species and subspecies of ammonites of the families Ancyloceratidae Gill, 1871, and Heteroceratidae Spath, 1922, are described. The following new taxa are described; Crioceratites (Paracrioceras) leyvaensis, C. (P.) royogomezi, C. (P.) cabreraensis, Pedioceras multicostatum, Pseudocrioceras guanense, Kutatissites creutzbergi, K. densecostatus compactus, K. etayosernai, K. grandis, K.? galanensis, Ammonitoceras galanense, A. giganteum, Hamiticeras ventrotuberculatum, H. longum, Hemihoplites (Matheronites) ridzewskyi sachicaensis, Colchidites riosuarezi, C. pseudovulanensis, C. guanensis and C. striatosulcatus. Moreover, one new genus, Laqueoceras gen. nov., with the type species L. laqueus sp. nov., is proposed. |

This paper focuses on the Barremian/Aptian boundary in the Trans-Caspian area. Results of a stratigraphical study of the uppermost Barremian and the lower Aptian succession in the Trans-Caspian area are presented. The bed-by-bed description of three sections — Keldzhe, Tekedzhik and Utuludzha — is given as well as detailed lithologic columns. Five ammonite zones are known in the studied stratigraphic interval — the Turkmeniceras turkmenicum, Deshayesites tuarkyricus, D. weissi, D. deshayesi, and Dufrenoya furcata zones. These zones are correlated with those of Europe. The Barremian/ Aptian boundary in the Trans-Caspian area should be drawn at the base of the D. tuarkyricus Zone. It corresponds to the layers with the first occurrences of Deshayesites,... |

Two deshayesitid ammonite assemblages are described from the Lower Cretaceous succession of the north coast of Hold with Hope, North-East Greenland, and their biostratigraphical significance is assessed. In the earlier assemblage Prodeshayesites cf. bodei and P. laeviusculus occur. The second assemblage contains Deshayesites boegvadi. The presence of P. cf. bodei suggests that the northwest European bodei Subzone of the fissicostatus Zone is represented in North-East Greenland. The occurrence of D. boegvadi, previously recorded only from Kuhn q, probably indicates the later part of the fissicostatus Zone, or the forbesi or deshayesi zones. Other occurrences of Greenland deshayesitid ammonites are discussed briefly. The new finds from Hold with Hope are... |

A new raninoidian crab, Bellcarcinus aptiensis gen. nov., sp. nov., is described from the upper Aptian of Colombia. The new genus displays a combination of traits seen among some ancient species within the Necrocarcinidae and Orithopsidae, obscuring its family placement. This taxon represents the sixth known genus of pre-Albian raninoidians worldwide, and the fourth known from Colombia, in addition to Joeranina, Planocarcinus and Colombicarcinus. Bellcarcinus gen. nov., together with other Early Cretaceous finds from Colombia and Brazil, represents early stocks of stem-group frog crabs, which indicate that tropical South America might have played an important role in the early radiation of the group.
