Solar drying of jack fruit almonds REA
Queiroz,Alexandre J. de M; Dantas,Hermeval J; Figueirêdo,Rossana M. F. de; Melo,Karla dos S.
Dryers heated by solar energy have been constructed and used in drying whole and half jack fruit almonds. The samples were dried during the day in direct sun and in the conventional solar dryer prepared for this purpose. Another piece of equipment was built for reception and accumulation of sun energy in a body of water, which was used as a heat source for night drying. The drying with the sun energy was compared with artificial drying. The jack fruit almonds were dried whole, half, with pellicle and without it. The storage of solar energy in water was technically viable for use in night drying. The drying by combining solar dryers in the day and night periods were completed in approximately 35 hours, and were equivalent to artificial drying between 40ºC...

Physiology and postharvest conservation of ‘Paluma’ guava under coatings using Jack fruit seed-based starch Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Rodrigues,Antonio Augusto Marques; Silva,Silvanda de Melo; Dantas,Ana Lima; Silva,Antonio Fernando da; Santos,Leonardo da Silva; Moreira,Dayse das Neves.
Abstract The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of jackfruit seed starch-based (S) coatings, added to chitosan and alginate on the physiology and maintenance of quality of cold stored ‘Paluma’ guavas, followed by transfer to the room condition. The design was the completely randomized, in a 4x2 factorial scheme, in 4 replications, with 4 coatings (dispersion of S - 4%; S 2% + chitosan - 2% (SC); S - 2% + alginate - 2% (SA); and the uncoated control), in 2 environments (refrigerated (10±2 °C e 80±2% RH) with transfer to room condition (25±3 °C e 75±4% HR)), on the 16th and 20th day of cold storage. The SC and SA coatings were efficient in reducing the respiratory rate in fruits during 10 days at room condition. The SC coating delayed fruit...

Tolerance to water deficit in young trees of jackfruit and sugar apple Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Rodrigues,Bruno Monteiro; Souza,Bruna Dias; Nogueira,Rejane Mansur; Santos,Mauro Guida.
The predawn leaf water potential (Ψl), stomatal conductance (g s), CO2 assimilation (A), transpiration (E), chlorophyll a fluorescence and leaf metabolite contents (soluble sugars, proteins and free amino acids) of two tropical fruit species grown in a greenhouse were evaluated to determine the effect of induced water stress on young plants. Six month-old jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.) and sugar apple (Annona squamosa L.) plants were evaluated in 10.0 L pots after eight days of water withholding, imposed by suspension of irrigation. Jackfruit water status was better than sugar apple. Sugar apple plants showed different daily stomatal behavior when well hydrated, compared to jackfruit plants under the same conditions. The gas exchange of both...

Comparative anatomy and histochemistry of the leaf blade of two species of Artocarpus Anais da ABC (AABC)
SÁ,RAFAELA D.; CADENA,MARÍLIA B.; PADILHA,RAFAEL J.R.; ALVES,LUIZ CARLOS; RANDAU,KARINA P..
Abstract Abstract: In Brazil, there are two species of Artocarpus that were introduced: Artocarpus altilis (Parkinson) Fosberg, known as fruta-pão, and Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam., known as jaca. Both are used as food and medicine. The objective of this work was to conduct a comparative anatomical and histochemical study between A. altilis and A. heterophyllus. Techniques of optical, polarized and scanning electron coupled to energy dispersive spectroscopy. The anatomical characterization showed the characters of general occurrence in the family Moraceae and of those that allow the differentiation of A. altilis and A. heterophyllus. The histochemistry revealed the sites of synthesis and/or storage of the metabolites. The chemical microanalyses brought...
