ABSTRACT The experiment was conducted in (Integrated Agroecological Production System in Seropedica-RJ) Sistema Integrado de Produção Agroecológica (SIPA), Seropédica-RJ, to evaluate the effect of two maize populations in relation to baby corn productivity and shoot mass, to determine the contribution of pre-cultivated maize, green velvet and organic topdressing fertilization in the agronomic performance of cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata). ABSTRACT The goal of the study was to test the effects of combined weeding and gliricidia (Gliricidia sepium) intercropping for weed control in baby corn and green corn production. A completely randomized block design was employed, with split-plot and four replicates. Hybrids AG 1051 and BR 205 were subjected to the following treatments: A = two hoeings, 20 and 40 days after sowing (DAS); B = hoeing at 20 DAS + gliricidia intercropping following weeding; C = gliricidia intercropping established at the moment of corn sowing (GICS) + hoeing at 40 DAS; D = GICS; E = no weeding. Objectives of the Sweet Corn and Baby Corn Improvement Project of Kasetsart University was to improve populations and develop inbreds and single-cross hybrids of sweet corn and the non-detasseld baby corn for high yield and good eating quality for the fresh market and processing. Three sweet corn populations KSC 3 (AC0) and TSC 1 DMR (BC0) and KSC 2 (CC0) were improved by using S2 testcrossed with inbred testers KSei 14004 and SSWI 114, respectively, except for CC3 using S3 testcross). During 3 years (2007-2009), KSC 3(HI)C3 (AC3), TSC 1 DMR (HI)C2 (BC2) and KSC 2(HI)C3 (CC3) were successfully improved including their inbred and hybrid development. Objective of this research was to study the effect of spacing on growth and seed yield in seed production of the non-detasseled baby corn single-cross hybrid KBSC 605. Five spacings were 75*10 cm (133,331 plants/ha), 75*12.5 cm (106,669 plants/ha), 75*15 cm (88,887 plants/ha), 75*17.5 cm (76,187 plants/ha) and 75*20 cm (66,669 plants/ha) were tested in randomized complete block design with four replications at the National Corn and Sorghum Research Center in the dry season (December 2008-April 2009). The male: female row ratio was 1: 4 by planting the female rows before the male rows five days.
