Resistance of Xanthomonas euvesicatoria strains from Brazilian pepper to copper and zinc sulfates Anais da ABC (AABC)
AREAS,MAYSA S.; GONÇALVES,RICARDO M.; SOMAN,JOSÉ M.; SOUZA FILHO,RONALDO C.; GIORIA,RICARDO; SILVA JUNIOR,TADEU A.F. DA; MARINGONI,ANTONIO C..
ABSTRACT Bacterial spot, caused by Xanthomonas spp., is one of the major bacterial diseases in pepper (Capsicum annuum L.). The infection results in reduced crop yield, particularly during periods of high rainfall and temperature, due to the low efficiency of chemical control with copper bactericides. This study evaluated the copper and zinc sulfate sensitivity of 59 pathogenic strains of Xanthomonas euvesicatoria isolated from pepper plants produced in various regions throughout Brazil. Both the respective sulfates and a mixture thereof was evaluated at 50, 100, 200 and 400 μg.mL-1. All the evaluated strains were found to be resistant to zinc sulfate (100 μg.mL-1) and 86.4% were resistant to copper sulfate (200 μg.mL-1). The mixture of copper (200...

Molecular methods for diversity assessment among xanthomonads of Bulgarian and Macedonian pepper BJM
Vancheva,Taca; Stoyanova,Mariya; Tasheva-Terzieva,Elena; Bogatzevska,Nevena; Moncheva,Penka.
ABSTRACT Bacterial spot is an important disease of pepper in Bulgaria and Macedonia. For characterization of Xanthomonas species associated with bacterial spot, 161 strains were collected from various field pepper-growing regions. Among them, 131 strains were identified as Xanthomonas euvesicatoria and 30 as Xanthomonas vesicatoria using species-specific primers and polymerase chain reaction followed by restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis. To assess the genetic diversity of the strains, two methods (Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA and Repetitive Element Palindromic-Polymerase Chain Reaction) were applied. Discriminatory index was calculated and analysis of molecular variance was carried out.Combined random amplified polymorphic DNA analysis...

Chemical products induce resistance to Xanthomonas perforans in tomato BJM
Itako,Adriana Terumi; Tolentino Júnior,João Batista; Silva Júnior,Tadeu Antônio Fernandes da; Soman,José Marcelo; Maringoni,Antonio Carlos.
The bacterial spot of tomato, caused by Xanthomonas spp., is a very important disease, especially in the hot and humid periods of the year. The chemical control of the disease has not been very effective for a number of reasons. This study aimed to evaluate, under greenhouse conditions, the efficacy of leaf-spraying chemicals (acibenzolar-S-methyl (ASM) (0.025 g.L−1), fluazinam (0.25 g.L−1), pyraclostrobin (0.08 g.L−1), pyraclostrobin + methiran (0.02 g.L−1 + 2.2 g.L−1), copper oxychloride (1.50 g.L−1), mancozeb + copper oxychloride (0.88 g.L−1 + 0.60 g.L−1), and oxytetracycline (0.40 g.L−1)) on control of bacterial spot. Tomatoes Santa Clara and Gisele cultivars were pulverized 3 days before inoculation with Xanthomonas perforans. The production of...
