Coastal planning in North Shore City, New Zealand: Developing responsible coastal erosion policy AgEcon
Wilson, Amanda.
North Shore City’s coastline has been subject to intensive development pressure over the last 15 years. In this time, new developments have established along previously undeveloped areas of coastline and existing sites have redeveloped with much larger houses. This paper provides a description of the planning controls that currently affect coastal development and an assessment of the effectiveness of these controls. This is followed by an analysis of the role of local government in controlling future development. Contention arises when attempts are made to control the property rights of landowners to protect their properties from coastal erosion. The Scale Benefit Analysis of Sugar Clusters in Resource-rich Area of Southweatern Guangxi——A Case of Chongzuo City AgEcon
Ma, Chang-gang.
Based on the scope economic theory of “resource curse” and industrial clusters, the scale of sugar cluster is calculated by the outputs of sugarcane and sugar while the scale benefit of sugar cluster is measured by the productivity ( rate of sugar production), sales output ratio, industrial output value as well as profit margin. And the primary problems of sugar clusters are pointed out. The profit created by sugar for the sugar industry in Chongzuo City has already been near capacity. Workshop Report: Advancing the Art of Analyzing Risks and Benefits of Dredged Material Management AgEcon
Wilson, James D..
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been delegated responsibility for assuring the navigability of waters designated for that purpose in the United States. Dredging is among the activities required to fulfill this responsibility. In some places, the Corps finds difficulty in carrying out dredging projects because it lacks spaces where the sediments that must be removed ("dredged materials") can be placed or otherwise managed. In these cases, the public has expressed concerns about the impacts of dredged materials on the environment, either underwater or on land ("upland"). Thus, the Corps often finds it necessary to be able to evaluate and describe the costs or risks and the benefits of the possible alternatives that may be available. Scientists and...

A trend, which can be shown, is the development of several quality systems and norms in response to this challenge. Therefore programmes will be developed and improved in the Agri-Food-industry further on. There are general quality systems, which are applied in different countries and sectors, country and product specific standards and programmes, which were developed by retail initiatives. Case study about field trial responses of the zero energy storage system CIGR Journal
Islam, M. P.; Morimoto, T.; Hatou, K.; Hassan, L.; Awal, M. A.; Hossain, S. T..
A low cost ‘Zero Energy Cool Chamber (ZECC)’ has been developed for storing fruits and vegetables by usingpassive evaporative mechanism. This paper presents the results of a survey on the farmer’s opinion regarding the exploitationof zero energy storage system. This survey was conducted at Mymensingh district of Bangladesh from 2011 to 2012 and italso revealed that most of the farmers sell their produce to the middlemen just after the harvest. Lack of transportation facility, shortage of energy supply and lack of investment on storage, lower price of vegetables during the harvesting season, farmers in the rural areas often sell their products to the middleman or in the local market at low prices. They are not even able to get the return of invested money...
