Impact of rainbow trout on aquatic invertebrate communities in subtropical mountain streams of northwest Argentina Ecología austral

The present study was conducted to assess the effect of rainbow trout introduction on benthic invertebrate communities, stratified as epibenthos and infauna. Two main questions are explored: 1) do the trout-invaded streams show a different community structure than the streams with autochthonous fish?, and 2) does the presence of trout affect differentially the epibenthos and the infauna? Epibenthic and infaunal samples, drift samples and fish stomach content were sampled four times from three stations to assess the impact of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) on the invertebrate aquatic fauna. Trophic structure of benthic communities is influenced by the availability of food resources which indeed may be conditioned by stream size, shading and substrate. This study aims to analyze the distribution of macroinvertebrate Functional Feeding Groups in different habitats of mountain streams (Córdoba, Argentina) and to assess the environmental variables conditioning this distribution at the habitat level. Oxygen deficiency and benthic communities in the peruvian upper continental margin Gayana

The oxygen minimum zone (OMZ) off the Peruvian coast, though shallower and more intense than other OMZs, exhibits a spatial distribution that varies with latitude, depth and distance to the coast. The spatial variability in oxygen content imposes latitudinal and bathymetric zonations of the benthic communities. Nevertheless the spatial patterns of the benthic communities are also modulated by the bottom topography and the sedimentary environments, which in turn are controlled to a large extent by the poleward undercurrent. Проанализировано распределения бактерио-, мейо- и макрозообентоса в зависимости от физико-химических характеристик донных осадков бухты Южная (г. Севастополь, Чёрное море). Содержание нефтяных углеводородов составляло 607,2 – 1458,0 мг/100 г сух. осадка. В вершинной части бухты отмечено снижение концентраций нефтяных углеводородов. Общая численность гетеротрофных бактерий находилась в пределах 104 кл./г, плотность мейобентосного населения 9500 – 197800 экз./м2. Наибольшая средняя плотность мейобентоса приурочена к кутовой части бухты. Соотношение основных групп мейобентоса указывает на более благоприятные условия для существования мейобентосных организмов в вершине бухты. В составе макрозообентоса отмечен 31 таксон. Сравнение видового состава и количественного развития полихет обрастания и бентоса на примере Одесского порта IBSS Repository

На большом фактическом материале (222 пробы обрастания, 123 пробы бентоса), собранном в 2001 г., изучены видовой состав, количественное развитие полихет и их экологическая структура в акватории Одесского порта. Зарегистрировано 19 видов полихет (17 видов в бентосе и 9 – в обрастании гидротехнических сооружений). Наиболее массовыми видами были Neanthes succinea, Polydora limicola и Heteromastus filiformis. Среди основных жизненных форм в обрастании и в бентосе доминировали интра-эпибионты. В обрастании преобладали полифаги, в бентосе – полифаги и детритофаги. По Постановлению Правительства Украинской ССР Одесская биологическая станция (ОБС) была организована в конце 1953 г как научное подразделение Института гидробиологии АН УССР. Основным заданием ОБС было проведение фундаментальных гидробиологических исследований в северо-западной части Черного моря и приморских водоемах – дельтах, лиманах и лагунах. Для получения сравнительных материалов предполагались также изучение других районов Черного моря и Азовское море. Вертикальное распределение глубоководных инфузорий в Чёрном море. IBSS Repository

Изложены материалы по вертикальному распределению донных Ciliophora в Чёрном море на глубинах от 120 до 2075 м. Сероводород начал регистрироваться со 160 – 170 м. Отмечено три пика обилия цилиат на глубинах 120, 160 и 240 м. Средний пик обилия приходится на глубины появления сероводорода. Кроме того, по имеющимся данным, на тех же глубинах находятся пелагические пики интенсивности бактериального хемосинтеза и продукции бактерий. Следовательно, пики обилия инфузорий можно связать со скоплениями пищи. В других меромиктических водоёмах сгущения микропланктона тоже наблюдаются в области перехода от аэробных вод к анаэробным. Наибольшее число морфотипов цилиат (8) было на глубине 240 м, в области нижнего пика обилия.

Temporal and spatial variation of rocky shores intertidal benthic communities in Southeast Brazil Iheringia, Sér. Zool.

The relationships between environmental factors and temporal and spatial variations of benthic communities of three rocky shores of the state of Espírito Santo, Southeast Brazil, were studied. Sampling was conducted every three months, from August 2006 to May 2007, using intersection points. Chthamalus bisinuatus (Pilsbry, 1916) (Crustacea) and Brachidontes spp. (Mollusca) were the most abundant taxa, occupying the upper level of the intertidal zone of the rocky shore. The species richness was higher at the lower levels. The invasive species Isognomon bicolor (C. B. Adams, 1845) (Mollusca) occurred at low densities in the studied areas. Biometry of neotropical invertebrates inhabiting floodplain rivers: unraveling bionomy Iheringia, Sér. Zool.

ABSTRACT Currently, it is widely recognized that invertebrates play key roles in neotropical floodplains and in many other environments worldwide. However, little information has been published concerning their biometry, in spite that it represents an essential tool for many different studies. Here, we provided length-mass and length-length relationships by fitting the linearized model (log10 Y = log10a + b log10 X) and several mean biomass ratios ± SE for bivalves, gastropods, quironomids, ephemeropterans, oligochaetes and hirudineans. We measured, weighed, oven dried and incinerated to ashes specimens collected from 2005 to 2014 in the Paraná River, Argentina. The aim of this study is to analyze and relate the spatial-temporal variability of macrozoobenthic assemblages to bottom characteristics and salinity fluctuations, in an estuarine shallow water region of Patos Lagoon. Monthly samples, between September 2002 and August 2003, were taken on six sampling stations (distant 90 m). Three biological samples with a 10 cm diameter corer, one sample for sediment analysis, fortnightly bottom topography measurements, and daily data of temperature and salinity were taken from each station. Hydrothermal communities of various species compositions have been described from the eastern and western Pacific and Atlantic. Brine and cold seeps and hydrocarbon seepages have been found off Florida, off the Oregon and Japanese subduction systems, on the Laurentian Fan, near Barbados, and off Louisiana. Biomasses range from 10 to 70 kg/m super(2), fresh weight. Basic microdistribution of species groups in aureoles centered around hydrothermal vents reveals different levels of adaptation to harsh physico-chemical conditions. Biological availability of sediment-bound trace metals. ArchiMer

It has been established that direct uptake of (at least some) trace metals from sediments contributes to metal concentrations in benthic organisms. Important controls on metal uptake from sediment are the concentration of the exposure, the partitioning of the metals among components of the sediment, and the redox potential of the sediment. Important problems in ecology, physiology, geochemistry and biogeochemistry remain unresolved, however, and a concentrated interdisciplinary research effort will be necessary before a complete understanding of the fate and impact of sediment-bound metals will be possible.

The waters of the Seine River are polluted by urban, industrial and agricultural effluents. In addition direct industrial wastes inputs are emptied into the estuary. Within the limits of the Seine Bay program it was not possible to research pollution impacts on every estuarine ecosystem link; so only benthos have been studied. To take time response of organisms into account, the authors have defined indicators or quantitative evaluation of parameters, reflecting physiological state. They have studied population fluctuations caused by natural or man induced effects.
