TOXIC ACTIVITY OF PYRETHROIDS IN Lutzomyia longipalpis (DIPTERA: PSYCHODIDAE) FROM MAGDALENA RIVER BASIN, COLOMBIA Acta biol.Colomb.

ABSTRACT The study aimed to determine the toxicity of lambda-cyhalothrin, alpha-cypermethrin, and deltamethrin in L. longipalpis, through concentration-mortality bioassays. The test here was performed following WHO guidelines, but instead of using exposure WHO recipients and impregnated papers, 250 ml Wheaton glass bottles treated with 1 ml of insecticide solution were used. Batches of ten females of L. longipalpis were exposed to five concentrations of each pyrethroid that caused between 5 and 100 % mortality in this species. After 1 h of exposure, the females were transferred to observation recipients, and mortality was recorded 24 h later. Active polyketides isolated from Penicillium herquei Anais da ABC (AABC)

In this work we are reporting the isolation by classical methods of chromatography of six polyketides from Penicillium herquei. The compounds citreorosein ( 1) , emodin ( 2) , janthinone ( 3) , citrinin ( 4) , citrinin H1 ( 5) and dicitrinol ( 6) were identified by spectral methods of 1D and 2D NMR and MS. Compounds 1, 2 and 3 were tested against promastigotes forms of Leishmania brasiliensis and 1 and 2 were also assayed against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus subtilis and showed good activity.

Antioxidants have the ability to neutralize free radicals produced in the body during lipid oxidation. The objective in this article was to study the effect of the barley extract on lipid oxidation in rats subjected to a high-fat diet. The experiment lasted 67 days. The animals were separated into three experimental groups: standard (P), high-fat diet group (L), and group with high-fat diet supplemented with barley extract (C). The feed intake of L and C groups was the lowest (p < 0.05). The treatments did not influence weight gain, organ weight, and the blood parameters measured. Bacuri (Scheelea phalerata Mart.) is a type of palm fruit tree widely distributed in the Brazilian Cerrado. The objective of this paper was to study the almonds of bacuri, in their form in natura and processed, focusing on their nutritional value through the profile of amino acids, anti-nutritional factors and in vivo digestibility. Raw and toasted samples of the almond presented a high level of proteins and fiber. Proteins of raw bacuri almond showed no limiting amino acid when compared to the ones recommended by FAO/WHO, and histidine was the most limiting essential amino acid in the toasted almonds. Resistência natural da madeira de Tachigali vulgaris ao fungo xilófago Postia placenta PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira

O trabalho teve como objetivo analisar a resistência natural da madeira de Tachigali vulgaris L. G. Silva & H. C. Lima ao fungo Postia placenta (Fr.) M. J. Lars. & Lomb., causador da podridão parda. Foram coletadas nove árvores e, da tora basal, confeccionadas seis amostras de cada indivíduo, com dimensões de 25 mm x 25 mm x 9 mm (radial, tangencial e axial) no sentido base ao topo. As amostras foram mantidas em contato com o fungo durante 14 semanas, em sala climatizada, sendo posteriormente secas e a perda de massa avaliada. A madeira de T. vulgaris se mostrou altamente resistente a P. placenta, pois o maior valor de perda de massa foi de 12,13%.
